I ran into this while using GrowBook on my own plants, then had to decide what the app should do.
I own more than one pothos. Calling both of them βPothosβ is technically correct and completely unhelpful when one is beside the kitchen window and the other is struggling on a dark shelf.
What GrowBook does
The easiest identifier is the photo I took myself: the white pot with the chipped rim, the long vine near the bookshelf, the small cutting in a jar. That image carries information a clean stock illustration never will.
The boundary I kept
GrowBook uses your own plant photos on the home screen and in each record. The picture is not decoration. It helps you choose the right plant before marking a task complete, and it becomes a quiet timeline as the leaves change.
For me, βthe pothos in the chipped white potβ is a better identifier than another perfect species icon.
