I wrote this down because the implementation only makes sense after the plant-care problem is clear.
Plant identification is useful when a gifted cutting arrives with no label. It is less useful when an app presents one confident answer and quietly sends the photo to a server.
What GrowBook does
GrowBook runs its identification model on the phone. The photo does not need to leave the device for the model to make a guess, and the feature still works without a connection. The tradeoff is that a small mobile model knows less than a large cloud service.
The boundary I kept
So the result is presented as a shortlist with confidence scores, not a verdict. Common houseplants are easier. Unusual cultivars and poor photos can fool it. I use the result as a starting point, then check leaf shape, growth habit and a reliable plant reference.
For this app, I chose the private shortlist. It is less impressive in a demo and more consistent with the rest of the product.
