The China-led five-seat SUV uses the CEA architecture (developed with Xpeng), a Horizon Robotics Journey 6H chip and a 192-line lidar among 25 sensors, a 170 kW motor, 59.9 / 77.5 kWh LFP packs and 540 / 660 km CLTC range. Volkswagen Group slashes 2026 outlook as China pressure mounts
Volkswagen AG cut its 2026 forecast on Sep 18, now expecting sales of around €315 billion and an operating margin of up to 1% (versus a prior 4.0–5.5%), with about €10 billion of special items — including a roughly €6 billion non-cash Porsche goodwill impairment. The group flagged a worsening market "especially in China," where NEV retail penetration hit 65.2% in August and Chinese brands took a 73.4% share of passenger sales in the first eight months. Seres takes the wheel on 问界 as Huawei retreats to tech supplier (EREV)
Following a Sep 15–18 clarification, 问界 (AITO) — Seres's range-extender (EREV) flagship brand — is moving to a Seres-led exclusive sales and service network, with Huawei stepping back to a technical-enablement role (HarmonySpace, ADS, computing platforms). The split values Huawei's auto-tech unit 引望 at about ¥115 billion (Huawei 80%, Seres and Avatr 10% each). Separately, AITO began its overseas push with a UAE launch on Sep 12. HIMA delivered 42,101 units in August, with 问界 at 22,600 (53.7%). (Source: Tencent News / 第一财经 / HIMA, Sep 15–20)
Chosun Ilbo: "Global cars will use China's EV standard"
A Sep 20 commentary in South Korea's Chosun Ilbo conceded that Chinese EVs are becoming the new global benchmark — citing technology lead, ~2-year model cycles and cost/ecosystem advantages. China's vehicle exports reached 7.153 million in the first eight months (full-year 2026 likely above 10 million, roughly double Japan's), while Japanese makers stall: Nissan sold 3.202 million in 2025 (down ~43% from its 5.696 million peak) and is cutting 20,000 jobs. Toyota is building a 100%-owned Lexus EV plant in Shanghai, due online in 2027. (Source: Toutiao / Chosun Ilbo, Sep 20)
In brief
- EU plug-in cap: Brussels's push for a "voluntary" 15% ceiling on Chinese PHEV/EREV imports (flagged Sep 18) remains a live trade flashpoint as the PHEV/EREV export boom continues.
