The missing piece for Internxt users on Android: automatic folder sync, photo backup and cloud-to-cloud transfers, all from one app
If you chose Internxt , you probably chose it for privacy. It’s end-to-end encrypted, zero-knowledge and open source, which puts it in a small group of clouds that genuinely can’t see your files. But if you use Internxt on an Android phone, you’ve likely noticed a gap: there’s no simple way to keep a phone folder automatically synced with Internxt.
According to Internxt’s own help center, scheduled backups are started from the desktop app (Windows, macOS, Linux). On Android, the experience is built around browsing your drive and uploading files. That’s fine for the occasional document, but it’s not how most of us live: our phones generate photos, screenshots, WhatsApp media, downloads and documents every single day.
This article explains how QuestSync , an Android cloud sync app, fills that gap. It covers Internxt Android sync , automatic Internxt photo backup , two-way folder sync , moving files from Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive to Internxt , and every other feature in the app.
The problem: Internxt on Android is manual
Here’s what a typical Internxt user on Android runs into:
- No automatic folder sync. You can’t pick a folder like Documents or WhatsApp/Media and say “keep this in Internxt.”
- No schedules on the phone. Scheduled backups live in the desktop app, so a phone-only user has nothing running in the background.
- Migrating is painful. Moving years of files from Google Drive or Dropbox into Internxt usually means downloading everything to a computer and uploading it again.
- Everything else is scattered. Most people don’t use only one cloud. Work files are in OneDrive, old photos are in Google Drive, and the private stuff is in Internxt, each with its own app.
The solution: QuestSync treats Internxt like any other sync folder
QuestSync is an Android app that connects Internxt, and 40+ other clouds, and lets you sync, back up and transfer files between them and your phone. It’s built on the well-known open-source rclone engine, which recently gained an Internxt backend, and wraps it in a simple mobile interface.
Files move directly between your phone and Internxt. QuestSync has no servers in the middle, and your Internxt login is stored encrypted on your device only.
How to set up automatic Internxt sync on Android (5 minutes)
- Install QuestSync from Google Play.
- Tap Add a cloud → Internxt and sign in with your Internxt email and password.
- Tap New transfer. Choose a source, for example This phone → DCIM/Camera, and a destination, for example Internxt → /Photos.
- Pick a mode: Back up (copy new files), Mirror , Two-way sync or Move.
- Under When , choose Daily (or hourly or weekly) and switch on Wi-Fi only and While charging.
- Tap Start. The first run uploads everything; after that, only new and changed files are sent.
That’s it: your phone now backs up to Internxt automatically, every night, without you thinking about it.
Every QuestSync feature, explained for Internxt users
1. Automatic Internxt photo backup (gallery sync)
Back up DCIM/Camera, Screenshots and any other gallery folder to an encrypted Internxt folder. Each run copies only new and changed photos and videos, so daily backups are small and fast. Your most personal data ends up in a zero-knowledge cloud instead of a mainstream photo service.
2. Folder sync for any Android folder
It’s not just photos. Sync Documents, Downloads, WhatsApp/Media, Telegram, Music, a notes vault, or any folder you choose, with any Internxt folder.
3. Four sync modes
- Back up : copies new and changed files to Internxt and never deletes anything there. The safest choice for photos.
- Mirror : makes the Internxt folder an exact copy of the phone folder.
- Two-way sync : changes on either side appear on the other, so your phone and Internxt stay identical.
- Move : uploads to Internxt, then removes the local copy to free up phone storage.
4. Schedules that keep running
Run jobs hourly, every few hours, daily or weekly. Limit them to Wi-Fi only and while charging so they never eat mobile data or battery. Scheduled jobs survive app restarts and phone reboots, and pick up where they left off after a network drop.
5. Move Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive to Internxt, from the phone
Switching to Internxt? Connect your old cloud and Internxt in QuestSync, pick a folder and transfer it cloud to cloud , with no computer and no manual re-uploading. It works for Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Box, pCloud, MEGA, iCloud Drive, Proton Drive, Nextcloud and more.
6. Free up phone storage safely
Use Move with a filter like “older than 90 days” to send old photos and videos to Internxt and remove them from the phone. You free gigabytes without deleting a single memory.
7. Filters
Back up only photos, only videos, only documents, only files above a certain size, or only files older than a certain date.
8. Smart handling of Internxt specifics
Internxt doesn’t accept zero-byte (empty) files. Instead of failing the whole job, QuestSync skips them and tells you how many it skipped.
9. Internxt in Android’s file picker
Connected clouds appear in Android’s system file picker, so you can attach an Internxt file in Gmail, WhatsApp or any app that opens files.
10. One app for all your other clouds too
Most people don’t use only Internxt. QuestSync supports 40+ services side by side: Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Box, pCloud, MEGA, iCloud Drive, Proton Drive, Koofr, Yandex Disk, Jottacloud, Backblaze B2, Amazon S3, Azure Blob, Storj, Nextcloud, Seafile, WebDAV, SFTP, FTP and SMB/Windows shares. You can even add several accounts of the same provider.
That also means you can use the free storage you already have. Across the free tiers of these providers there’s over 108 GB, and with a few accounts (personal, work, family) many households get well past 300 GB.
11. InstaSend and InstaReceive
Send files to a nearby phone or laptop over Wi-Fi with a QR code; the other person only needs a browser. Or scan someone’s code and save the file straight into Internxt.
12. Private by design, in your language
No middleman servers, an encrypted credential store on the device, and the app is translated into 20 languages.
Free vs Pro
QuestSync is free to download. Back up and cloud-to-cloud copy work on the free plan, with occasional short ads on long transfers. QuestSync Pro , available as a subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase, adds schedules, Mirror, Two-way sync and Move, and removes ads.
