The 4 silent rejection bugs we hit selling across 5 digital platforms — and the pure-Python linter we built to catch them

When you sell digital goods (ebooks, game assets, tools, prompts) across
multiple platforms — Amazon KDP, itch.io, Gumroad, DLsite, note — you
quickly learn that every platform has its own quiet failure modes.

Not hard crashes, but silent failures:

• Your itch.io cover is portrait-oriented (e.g. 832x1216) instead of 630x500 landscape, getting awkwardly cropped in browse grids.
• Your KDP cover ratio drifts slightly from 1:1.6, throwing yellow validation warnings.
• Your article mentions affiliate links without mandatory disclosure tags, risking ad-standard takedowns.
• Your pricing metadata parses ¥0 or a bogus tier due to formatting typos.

After catching these by hand on Day 7 across dozens of SKUs, we wrote
a single-file, zero-dependency Python CLI tool called Listing Lint.

What it checks before you publish:

1. Cover Image Geometry:
Checks image headers without PIL/OpenCV (using pure struct parsing)
to ensure itch.io covers are landscape 630x500 and KDP covers match 1:1.6.

2. Platform Disclosure Compliance:
Verifies that AI disclosures, licensing terms, and commercial usage rights
are explicitly declared where the platform requires them.

3. Regulatory & Advertising Guardrails:
Flags affiliate links lacking proper sponsorship / PR notices, and catches
accidental inclusion of protected trademarks or forbidden keywords.

4. Pricing Sanity:
Catches accidental free listings, negative values, or misparsed currency
amounts before they hit the storefront API.

No external libraries. No API keys. Works completely offline on Windows, macOS,
and Linux. You simply run:

python listing_lint.py --dir ./my_products

If you're publishing indie games, dev assets, or technical writing across
multiple storefronts, we packaged the tool (with rules documentation and test fixtures)
available on itch.io ($2 PWYW):
