Windows 11 Bluetooth Not Working? Here's How to Fix It

You open Settings → Bluetooth & devices.

You click "Add device."

Nothing happens.

Or maybe Bluetooth is on, but your headphones, mouse, or keyboard won't connect.

Or worse — the Bluetooth toggle is completely missing from Settings.

You might think:

"Is my Bluetooth adapter broken? Do I need a new one?"

Probably not.

Bluetooth problems are one of the most common issues in Windows 11. They can happen after a Windows update, a driver conflict, or just randomly.

The good news? Most Bluetooth issues can be fixed in minutes.

This guide covers 7 practical ways to fix Bluetooth problems on Windows 11 — from simple restarts to driver updates.

7 Ways to Fix Bluetooth on Windows 11

Fix 1: Turn Bluetooth Off and On Again

This sounds too simple — but it often works.

How to do it:

1. Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices
2. Toggle Bluetooth to Off
3. Wait 5 seconds
4. Toggle it back to On
5. Try connecting your device again

Pro tip: If the toggle is grayed out or missing, check the Bluetooth service (Fix 3) and Device Manager (Fix 5) — the adapter or driver may not be detected properly.

Fix 2: Restart Your PC

A full restart can fix temporary driver issues that cause Bluetooth problems.

How to do it:

1. Click Start → Power → Restart
2. Wait for your PC to reboot
3. Try Bluetooth again

Note: Choose Restart — not Shutdown. Windows Fast Startup can sometimes prevent drivers from reloading properly.

Fix 3: Restart the Bluetooth Service

Bluetooth relies on several Windows services. If one stops working, Bluetooth can fail.

How to restart the Bluetooth service:

1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, press Enter
2. Find Bluetooth Support Service
3. Right-click → Restart

If the service is stopped:

• Right-click → Start
• Change Startup type to Automatic

Pro tip: If the service won't start, skip to Fix 5.

Fix 4: Run the Bluetooth Troubleshooter

Windows 11 has a built-in troubleshooter for Bluetooth problems.

How to run it:

1. Open Settings → System → Troubleshoot
2. Click Other troubleshooters
3. Find Bluetooth → click Run
4. Follow the on-screen instructions

What it does: This tool checks for common Bluetooth issues — like disabled services, driver problems, or pairing errors — and attempts to fix them automatically.

Pro tip: Run this before trying more advanced fixes.

Fix 5: Update or Reinstall the Bluetooth Driver

A corrupted or outdated Bluetooth driver is one of the most common causes of Bluetooth issues.

Before you start: If possible, download the latest Bluetooth driver from your PC or adapter manufacturer's website before uninstalling the current driver.

How to update the driver:

1. Open Device Manager (right-click Start → Device Manager)
2. Expand Bluetooth
3. Right-click your Bluetooth adapter → Update driver → Search automatically for drivers

If that doesn't work, reinstall the driver:

1. Right-click your Bluetooth adapter → Uninstall device
2. Check Delete the driver software for this device (if available)
3. Click Uninstall
4. Restart your PC
5. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver automatically

If Windows doesn't reinstall the driver: Install the driver you downloaded earlier from the manufacturer's website.

Pro tip: If your PC has a physical Bluetooth switch or button (usually on laptops), make sure it's turned on.

Fix 6: Remove and Re-Pair Your Device

If your Bluetooth device is paired but won't connect, removing and re-pairing can fix the issue.

How to do it:

1. Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Devices
2. Find your device → click the three dots → Remove device
3. Click Yes to confirm
4. Click Add device → Bluetooth
5. Select your device and follow the pairing instructions

Pro tip: Put your device in pairing mode before starting the process.

Fix 7: Reset Your Network Settings (Advanced — Last Resort)

Network reset can help with general connectivity issues, but it is not a dedicated Bluetooth fix. It resets Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and VPN settings as well, so you will need to reconnect to your networks afterward.

How to reset network settings:

1. Open Settings → Network & internet → Advanced network settings
2. Click Network reset
3. Click Reset now
4. Your PC will restart in 5 minutes

Important: This will remove all Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and VPN settings. You'll need to reconnect to your Wi-Fi networks afterward. Only use this as a last resort for Bluetooth connectivity issues.
