Airbnb’s revised host policy defines which pre-checkout tasks can be requested and where those rules must be disclosed.
Laundry and stripping bed sheets are not considered reasonable tasks; gathering used towels is allowed.
Hosts must put rules in the listing, not add them after booking.
The policy takes effect on November 20, 2026.
Hosts should not ask for tasks that require a lot of time or effort, or that would normally be handled by a cleaner. The change is part of a broader review of Airbnb’s host rules.
Hosts will be able to choose from seven basic rules for their listing and add additional requests. Rules and requests must be listed in a designated area of the listing. They are not allowed to communicate them after booking via message, signs inside the home, or in person.
Airbnb says exceptions may apply in special cases. For example, in an area where bears are present, guests may be asked to put their trash in an animal-safe container. The new policy takes effect on November 20, 2026. The change was first spotted by Euronews.
