General Motors has announced its fourth-generation EV platform, introducing a Central Compute Unit that is 40x more powerful and a 30% reduction in vehicle wiring.
Utilizing enterprise AI tools for accelerated development and virtual battery pack prototyping, the new electrical architecture is set to debut in 2028 with the Cadillac Escalade IQ.
The new technological basis of cars
Sterling Anderson, the company's global product development manager, outlined plans for how future vehicles will be built and operated. At the heart of this change will be a new central computer that will be forty times more powerful than today's systems. The company says the new unit will help reduce wiring inside the vehicle by 30 percent.
When will we see the new cars on the road?
The new technology is expected to debut in 2028 with the Cadillac Escalade IQ model. Along with it, the company plans to offer a self-driving mode on highways, which will allow drivers to keep their hands and eyes off the road without having to take control.
The contribution of artificial intelligence
To speed up vehicle development and reduce production time, the company is leveraging artificial intelligence tools. For example, engineers created and tested 300.000 digital designs for a lithium-manganese-rich battery before building a physical prototype. Meanwhile, financial data shows that the company’s software amortization costs for 2025 amounted to $866 million.
