On 16 October at 19:00 Moscow time we opened Zenaria x40 to everyone: classic MU Online Season 6 Episode 3, x40 experience, x20 master experience, resets from level 350 (each next reset 10 levels higher, up to 400), 10 classes. This is the honest story of the first days: the numbers, the bugs and what comes next.
The first hours
45 minutes after launch there were 35 live players online. By 22:45 there were 52. At 05:45 the next morning, 59; clearly some people never went to bed. At 12:45 on 17 October, 71.
The peak came on 17 October around 21:15 Moscow time: 84 live players at the same time (bots excluded). Today, 20 October at 08:30, there are 72 live players online, and the curve has stayed around 55-75 since day two.
One account, Windows and a native Mac client
Most MU servers tell Mac players to use Wine, CrossOver or Parallels. We ship a native app for Apple Silicon (M1-M4 and newer, macOS 12+), no emulation layers. The game world is about 1.3 GB and the client updates itself. Same account as on Windows. Intel Macs are not supported. Current build is 239 on both platforms (Mac 18 MB, Windows 16 MB, updated 19 October).
Then the bugs arrived
To be honest, there were many. Builds 217 to 239 shipped between 16 and 19 October: 23 client updates in 4 days, all delivered by auto-update. Some favourites:
- Summoner's Chain Lightning, Lightning Orb and Drain Life flew sideways, and the bolt arrived from the edge of the map. Fixed in builds 224-225.
- After a teleport, wings, pets and buffs disappeared. MU Helper lost lines in its pick-up list. Fixed on launch day.
- Muse Elf couldn't read the Crystal of Multi-Shot even though the server allowed it. Fixed in 228.
- Grow Lancer couldn't take Marlon's quest, and Slayer got stuck at level 380. Fixed in 230.
- A black screen on login. Now the game tells you exactly why the server refuses you (for example, 3 windows already open). Build 234.
- Some players, especially on VPN, couldn't connect. The client now picks a working address (main or backup) and reconnects within 3 seconds. Builds 236-237.
- If your connection dropped, monsters killed your character. Now the character waits in place for you to reconnect, and a frozen client no longer slows the game for others (19 October).
- A transformed player with a 10-character name got "confused" with a monster's name and didn't receive party buffs. Fixed in 239.
On the server side: a short restart on 17 October with anti-dupe and trade fixes, Kundun +2...+5 boxes and Box of Luck now drop only Excellent items, skills are learned by class as in the original, and on 18 October Vulcanus monsters got about x1.8 HP and x1.7 damage.
A player wrote in a review: "there were a lot of bugs at launch, now there are fewer and fewer". That is exactly the goal.
Community moments
- Crywolf, 17 October: the players didn't hold the fortress. We counted it as defended anyway: no penalty, and +10% to Chaos Machine success rate as a gift.
- Weekly challenge in Lost Tower: goal 15,000 kills, the server did 95,227, more than six times the goal.
- This week's challenge in Atlans: goal 15,000, already 29,415 and done. One player, RedWings, alone has 11,173 kills.
- Our first duel tournament on 16 October? Zero duels. Nobody showed up. We'll try again.
What's next
- Path of Hero: 200 quests with rewards up to level 3 wings +13 (zenaria.ru/hero-path).
- Gem bank (/bank, key N), gems in the X-shop for GP, dual-wield Slayer, VPN login support.
- Duel tournament every Friday at 20:00 Moscow time, next on 23 October. Prize: 3 Jewel of Chaos, 3 Jewel of Life and a Jewel of Creation.
- Castle Siege on Saturdays at 20:00 (the castle is still unowned), world boss Erohim on Sundays at 20:00 in Devias, Happy Hours x2 daily 20:00-21:00.
- Season 1 runs until 30 November. Top-1 gets 2 Jewel of Creation, 3 Life and 3 Chaos.
- A sister server, Atlanta x100, opens 20 November on the same account.
If you remember MU from the 2000s and own a Mac, we'd especially love your feedback: almost no Mac players have told us how it runs yet.
