Traefik and SafeLine can occupy different positions in a web traffic path, but a successful deployment depends on clearly defining which component owns each responsibility. The supplied SafeLine documentation describes SafeLine as a self-hosted web application firewall and an HTTP/HTTPS reverse proxy. It receives traffic for an original website, filters malicious requests, and forwards safe traffic to the application (SafeLine introduction, Protecting an application).
That model gives you a useful starting point for a Traefik design: make the request path explicit before changing production DNS. For example, document whether clients reach Traefik first and then SafeLine, or whether SafeLine is the public reverse proxy and Traefik is behind it. The supplied SafeLine guides explain how to configure a protected application through SafeLine’s Web Admin Console, including the application domain, listening port, SSL setting where applicable, and upstream address. They do not provide a Traefik-specific configuration or establish a native integration, so treat the Traefik portion as an architecture and verification exercise rather than copying an unverified recipe.
Begin with ownership of ports and TLS. Only one service should be the intended public listener for each address and port. Record where HTTPS is terminated, how the next hop is reached, and whether the next hop expects HTTP or HTTPS. Confirm that the hostname used by clients resolves to the server where the public protection layer is running. SafeLine’s application guide specifically instructs administrators to resolve the configured domain to the IP address of the SafeLine server after adding the application (application configuration guide).
Next, verify the SafeLine host before deployment. The official deployment guide lists Linux, x86_64 or arm64 instruction architecture, Docker 20.10.14 or later, Docker Compose 2.0.0 or later, and a minimum environment of one CPU core, 1 GB memory, and 5 GB disk. It also documents ARM-specific environment settings and notes that ARM installations require a Pro license, while the Personal Edition is unsupported on ARM (SafeLine deployment guide). Use those documented requirements as a preflight checklist rather than assuming that a Traefik host automatically satisfies them.
After SafeLine is installed, use its Web Admin Console to add the application. The documented flow is to open the Applications page, choose Add Application, enter the domain, listening port, optional SSL setting, and upstream, then point DNS at the SafeLine server. When Traefik is part of the path, test each hop separately: client to public listener, public listener to the next proxy, proxy to SafeLine, and SafeLine to the original application. Check status codes, redirects, host headers, request paths, and access logs at every boundary.
Keep a rollback plan based on DNS and listener ownership. Before switching traffic, record the original upstream, current certificates, ports, and health checks. Test an ordinary request first, then confirm that SafeLine records and blocks representative attack patterns. The official guide gives examples for SQL injection, XSS, path traversal, code injection, and XXE, and says attack details can be reviewed in the SafeLine Web Console (application testing guide). Perform security testing only against an application you control.
Does SafeLine have a documented Traefik integration?
The supplied official documents explain SafeLine’s reverse-proxy model and application configuration, but they do not document a Traefik provider, middleware, labels, or a ready-made Traefik integration. A responsible deployment therefore starts by validating the network path and proxy responsibilities instead of assuming compatibility from similar proxy products.
Should Traefik come before or after SafeLine?
There is no single placement established by the supplied sources. Choose the order that gives SafeLine a clear, reachable upstream and preserves the intended client request information. Then test the complete path, including TLS behavior, redirects, hostnames, and failure handling. Document the decision so future routing changes do not accidentally bypass the WAF.
How do I configure the protected application in SafeLine?
Install SafeLine, sign in to the Web Admin Console, open Applications, and select Add Application. Enter the application domain, SafeLine listening port, SSL option when needed, and the real upstream address. Finally, resolve the domain to the SafeLine server as described in the official application guide.
How can I verify that protection is active?
Send normal application requests and inspect the result at each proxy boundary. Then use controlled test cases from the official guide, such as SQL injection, XSS, path traversal, code injection, or XXE, and check the SafeLine attack list and event details in the Web Console. Do not test systems without authorization.
Use this checklist to design your Traefik and SafeLine path, validate every hop, and document the final ownership of DNS, TLS, ports, and upstream routing. Review the SafeLine GitHub project and the official SafeLine documentation for the current project and deployment guidance.
SafeLine has surpassed 700,000 installations worldwide as of September 30, 2026. To celebrate, SafeLine Pro annual promotional pricing is $650-$880, compared with the regular $1,000 per year. See the offer details: https://cyberserval.tech/landing/lto
