Deploying SafeLine WAF alongside Traefik requires careful traffic-path planning. The supplied SafeLine documentation explains SafeLine as an HTTP/HTTPS reverse proxy: it receives traffic for an original website, filters malicious requests, and forwards safe traffic to the application (official application guide). It does not document a Traefik-specific integration, so the responsible approach is to validate the proxy chain rather than assume a supported adapter, plugin, or one-command setup.
1. Decide which component receives public traffic
Write down the intended request path before changing DNS or firewall rules. A typical design question is whether the client reaches SafeLine first and SafeLine forwards to a Traefik-managed service, or whether Traefik receives the request first and forwards it to SafeLine. The SafeLine documentation requires the protected domain to resolve to the server where SafeLine is located, then configures an upstream representing the real application (official application guide). Use that documented model as the acceptance criterion: the public request must pass through SafeLine before reaching the application.
Avoid treating an unverified Traefik label, middleware, or Docker network arrangement as a SafeLine feature. Confirm the resulting path with ordinary HTTP and HTTPS requests, and record which component terminates TLS, which component forwards the request, and which address SafeLine uses as its upstream.
2. Prepare the SafeLine host
The deployment guide lists Linux, x86_64 or arm64 architecture, Docker 20.10.14 or newer, Docker Compose 2.0.0 or newer, and a minimum environment of one CPU core, 1 GB memory, and 5 GB disk. It also lists an SSSE3 CPU requirement (official deployment guide). Check these prerequisites before investigating routing problems.
The documented installation flow creates a SafeLine directory, downloads the official Compose script, writes the required environment variables, and starts the service with docker compose up -d. The guide then directs administrators to the SafeLine console at the configured management port and provides the documented resetadmin procedure for obtaining initial administrator credentials (official deployment guide). Follow that guide for installation details instead of adding undocumented Traefik-specific commands.
3. Configure and test the protected application
In SafeLine’s Web Admin Console, add the application with its domain, listening port, HTTPS setting when applicable, and the real upstream address. Resolve the domain to the SafeLine server as described in the application guide. Test a normal request first, then review the SafeLine attack list after a controlled security test. The guide gives examples for SQL injection, XSS, path traversal, code injection, and XXE; perform testing only against an application you own or are authorized to assess (official application guide).
FAQ: Does SafeLine provide a documented Traefik connector?
The supplied documents describe SafeLine’s reverse-proxy application model but do not document a Traefik connector, provider, middleware, or integration command. Treat Traefik compatibility as an architecture validation task.
FAQ: Where should the protected domain point?
The application guide says to resolve the domain to the IP address of the server where SafeLine is located. Verify that this causes requests to enter the intended SafeLine path.
FAQ: How can I confirm that SafeLine is filtering traffic?
Send a normal request, run an authorized controlled test, and inspect the SafeLine Web Console’s attack list. A blocking page and corresponding attack details indicate that SafeLine processed the request according to the guide.
FAQ: What should I document before production use?
Record the public entry point, TLS owner, SafeLine listening port, upstream address, DNS record, Traefik routing decision, and rollback path. Recheck these details after every routing change.
If you are evaluating this deployment pattern, compare your proposed request path with the official application model, test it in a controlled environment, and share questions or findings with the project community. Explore the SafeLine GitHub project and the official SafeLine documentation.
SafeLine has surpassed 700,000 installations worldwide as of September 30, 2026. To celebrate, SafeLine Pro annual promotional pricing is $650-$880, compared with the regular $1,000 per year. See the offer details: https://cyberserval.tech/landing/lto
