Personal Homepages in the AI Age I keep going back and forth on whether a personal homepage is still worth building in the AI age. Here is where I have landed: yes, and more than two years ago, for reasons that have nothing to do with design. Thirty seconds gets you a polished bio, a professional-sounding caption for each project, and a clean one-page site with the layout already handled. Generation is free now, so having a page at all tells a reader nothing. What carries information instead is this: whether the sentences on the page trace back to something you actually did. Three things below: which step AI made cheap, where the remaining value of an ai era personal page sits, and a set of edits you can finish tonight. The step AI made cheap Going from nothing to something. Most of the cost of a homepage used to be layout and markup. Forms, spacing and the mobile pass no longer need your hands. I build one of these generators, so I will say this plainly: making the build step nearly free is what this category was always aiming at, not a side effect. The expensive step was never building. It is deciding what goes on the page, then coming back every few months. The people who stall inside a generator today stall in those two places, same as in 2021. Once generation got cheap, the reader's bar moved up a notch: two years ago a tidy layout said something, because it meant somebody had spent time on it. Layout says nothing now. Readers assume the page was generated and assume the copy had help, and what they actually check is whether the page contains one thing too specific to invent. That is what most of the ai era personal page argument is really about. Three places AI cannot fill in The sentence with a number in it. "Conversion moved from 1.8% to 3.4% in two weeks" cannot be produced on demand, because either it happened or it collapses on the first question. One number under each piece of work is the cheapest layer of proof and the hardest to fake. The trade-off you admitted to. Why the feature got cut, why launch slipped a week. Sentences like that carry your judgment, and judgment grows out of a specific situation, which is exactly what a general model does not have. It is also the part that earns a call instead of a templated rejection. Where you are willing to stand. What work you refuse, what terms you do not take, who you work with and who you do not. A position is an act of exclusion, and models are trained to offend nobody. The two pull in opposite directions. What AI does, what you do What AI gives in ten seconds --- A fluent paragraph A.
