Globalstar has confirmed an agreement to move Skylo’s satellite services onto its C-3 network.
The deal connects Globalstar’s existing satellite service for iPhones with Skylo’s support for Android devices such as Google Pixel.
Skylo has asked the FCC to support up to 250 million devices; the first C-3 satellites are expected to launch in 2027.
The importance of collaboration
Satellite services of this type allow for messaging and communication with emergency services from places where there is no mobile signal at all. Unlike other companies in the space, Skylo does not have its own satellites and relies on cooperation with other providers.
The agreement concerns the use of Globalstar's new C-3 satellite network. According to documents filed with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Skylo has sought approval to support up to 250 million devices through this network. The C-3 network was approved by the authority in October 2026, while the launch of the first satellites is expected in 2027.
The broader developments for Globalstar
The move coincides with a major business development, as Amazon is acquiring Globalstar for $11,6 billion. The investment aims to strengthen Globalstar's position in the satellite communications sector.
