There's a huge gap between knowing about cybersecurity and being able to do it. Thousands of people watch bug bounty walkthroughs on YouTube, read writeups on Medium, and follow hunters on Twitter, but when it's time to actually open Burp Suite against a real target, they freeze. They don't know where to start, what "in scope" really means, or how to turn a hunch into a submittable report.
Zero to Hunter, a new program from AstralGuard Cyber Academy, was built to close exactly that gap.
What Zero to Hunter Actually Is
This isn't another theory course. It's a 3-week, hands-on program that takes you through the same workflow real bug bounty hunters use every day, from the moment they pick a target to the moment they submit a report and get paid.
No lecture marathons. No isolated tool demos. You learn by doing, on real infrastructure, building toward a live hunt on authorized targets by the end of the program.
And here's the part that matters most: tuition is completely free. There is no course fee. Every willing participant simply contributes a UGX 12,000 facilitation fee to cover training infrastructure, nothing more. That's it. The barrier to entry that keeps so many talented people out of security training has been removed.
What You'll Actually Be Able to Do By the End
By the time you finish, you won't just understand bug bounty hunting in theory. You'll have practiced:
Reconnaissance and attack-surface discovery — mapping a target the way real hunters do before ever touching a payload
Exploitation and vulnerability testing — working with common web vulnerabilities on live, production-grade targets
Industry-standard security tooling — the same tools working hunters rely on daily
AI-assisted research — using AI to move faster and think sharper, not to replace your own analysis
Validation, not guesswork — learning to confirm a real finding and avoid burning your credibility on false positives
Professional report writing — turning a finding into a submission-ready report that program triagers actually want to read
The program closes with a live practical bug hunt on authorized targets and a final bug-hunting challenge, so you're not just tested on paper. You're tested the way the work actually happens.
Finish the program and you walk away with a verified AstralGuard Bug Bounty Foundations credential, something you can point to that proves you didn't just watch this, you did it.
Who This Is Built For
Zero to Hunter is designed specifically for people starting from nothing:
Aspiring bug bounty hunters who don't know where to begin
Students and self-taught learners tired of tutorial paralysis
Career-changers moving toward offensive security
Anyone with a laptop, a stable connection, and genuine hunger to learn
You don't need a security background. You don't need prior CTF experience. You need to show up ready to work.
Why the Cohort Is Small
Seats are capped at 15 participants. This isn't a scarcity gimmick, it's a practical constraint. A hands-on, feedback-heavy program only works if mentors can actually look at your recon, your findings, and your reports individually. A cohort of 15 keeps that possible.
The Bigger Picture
Africa has no shortage of talent in cybersecurity. What's often missing is structured, affordable, practical training that treats beginners like future professionals instead of an afterthought. That's the gap AstralGuard is building toward, one cohort at a time.
Zero to Hunter is a small, deliberate step: take someone from "I don't know where to start" to someone who can approach an authorized target with a plan, execute it, and write it up the way the industry expects.
