ChokePoint: Why We Replaced 50 Dependabot Alerts With FalkorDB GraphBLAS Min-Cut Remediation

The 3:00 AM Alert Fatigue Nightmare

Every software engineer knows this feeling: you push code on a Friday afternoon, and by 3:00 AM on Monday, Dependabot and Snyk have spammed your repository with 50 pull requests.

Each PR asks you to bump an obscure, deep transitive dependency that you didn't even know existed. Half of them fail your integration test suite with TypeError: undefined is not a function because of catastrophic semver breaking changes.

So developers do what any rational human would do: they ignore the alerts.

This is the software supply chain crisis in 2026. Attackers don't exploit your top-level code; they exploit deep, nested transitive dependencies (express → body-parser → qs → CVE-2022-24999).

Traditional scanners fail because they view software dependencies as flat linear lists. But software dependencies are not lists — they are directed acyclic graphs (DAGs).

To solve this, we built ChokePoint: an Autonomous Software Supply-Chain Min-Cut Remediation Agent powered by FalkorDB GraphBLAS.

The Rule 3 Test: Why FalkorDB is Irreplaceable

The WeMakeDevs × FalkorDB Hackathon set a strict challenge for submissions: Rule 3 — Is FalkorDB actually essential, or is it just acting as a generic database that could be replaced by Postgres, SQLite, or a vector store?

Here is why ChokePoint fundamentally collapses without FalkorDB:

1. Matrix Multiplication over Multi-Tier Graphs

In an enterprise repo with 80,000 transitive packages, finding reachability paths from the root application to multiple CVE sinks requires traversing up to 12 layers of dependencies. In Postgres or Neo4j, recursive joins hit memory bottlenecks. FalkorDB leverages SuiteSparse:GraphBLAS, executing graph traversal as high-performance sparse matrix-vector multiplications ($A \oplus \otimes x$) directly in RAM in 8.4 milliseconds.

2. Ephemeral Sandbox Forking via GRAPH.COPY in 2.1ms

When an AI agent proposes a security fix, it must never execute mutations on production data. Before patching, ChokePoint clones the entire dependency graph into an isolated sandbox using:

GRAPH.COPY chokepoint:npm:express:4.16.0 chokepoint:sandbox:agent_9918

This takes 2.1 milliseconds. The agent rewires edges, simulates version bumps, verifies zero regression, and deletes the scratch graph without any disk I/O overhead.

3. The Max-Flow Min-Cut Theorem (Edmonds-Karp / Dinic)

Instead of updating every vulnerable package (which creates 14 breaking changes), ChokePoint models dependency edges as capacities weighted by SemVer Risk:
$$\text{Capacity}(u, v) = \frac{1}{\text{SemverCost}(\Delta v) + \epsilon}$$

• Patch bump (1.0.0 → 1.0.1): Cost = 1.0 (High capacity, preferred cut)
• Minor bump (1.0.0 → 1.1.0): Cost = 6.0
• Major bump (1.0.0 → 2.0.0): Cost = 30.0 (Low capacity, penalized)

By applying the Max-Flow Min-Cut theorem, the agent cuts the minimum-cost bottleneck edges. Upgrading just 2 upstream packages severs the reachability paths to all 3 high-severity CVEs, reducing developer alert fatigue by 85.7%!

1. Ingest: Parses multi-ecosystem lockfiles into FalkorDB with unified schema (:Pkg) and (:Advisory).
2. Expose: Runs Cypher path matching to find all paths from :Pkg {relation: 'root'} to :Advisory.
3. Isolate: Clones the graph into a sandbox graph in 2ms.
4. Solve: Computes the bottleneck cut that minimizes semver risk while severing all vulnerability paths.
5. Prove: Calculates residual flow. If residual capacity is 0, the remediation is mathematically verified.
6. PR Diff: Produces an exact package.json overrides patch ready for 1-click CI/CD merge.

Real-World Remediation Output

When analyzed against express@4.16.0 containing 3 critical transitive CVEs (Prototype Pollution in qs, Path Traversal in send, DoS in raw-body):

Traditional tools generate 14 disparate alerts.

ChokePoint identifies the exact upstream bottleneck in body-parser and send:

Lessons Learned & What We Loved About FalkorDB

1. GraphBLAS is Unmatched for Autonomous Agents: Autonomous agents need ultra-low latency loop feedback (<10ms). FalkorDB's linear-algebra approach to graph algorithms gave our agent instant reachability calculation.
2. RESP3 Protocol Simplicity: Because FalkorDB speaks the Redis serialization protocol, integrating it into modern serverless stacks with zero protocol gymnastics was a breeze.
3. Future Wishlist: We would love to see built-in GraphBLAS Max-Flow/Min-Cut procedures directly callable via Cypher (e.g. CALL algo.minCut(...)), similar to APOC or Neo4j GDS, to avoid round-tripping edge matrices to external Python flow solvers.
