A lot of people wait for a title before they act like they own it.
They think the promotion comes first, then the bigger work.
It is almost always the other way around.
The people who move up are the ones who started doing the next role quietly, before anyone made it official.
I am not telling you to do three jobs for one paycheck forever.
I am telling you that a title is a label the company puts on what you are already doing.
So look at the role above yours.
What does that person handle that you currently avoid?
The messy planning.
The awkward conversations.
The decisions with no clean answer.
Start reaching for one of those, on purpose, in a small way.
Volunteer to write the plan.
Offer to run the meeting nobody wants.
Take the ambiguous task and bring back a proposal instead of a question.
You will feel underqualified.
Good.
That feeling is the exact edge of your growth.
Nobody feels ready for the next level.
They just start operating there and let the readiness catch up.
And here is the part people miss.
When it comes time to promote you, your manager is not making a bet on your potential.
They are describing what they have already watched you do.
You make that easy by leaving a trail of it.
So stop waiting for permission to grow.
The title follows the behavior.
Never the other way around.
Act one size up, quietly and consistently, and let the paperwork catch up to who you have already become.
