We have shipped 1,000+ cards across 23+ decks in Party Challenges by Inithouse, a free 18+ browser party card game for friends, couples and solo play. Every card lives at partychallenges.com, runs as a PWA, and needs no download, no account, no box on a shelf. That last point matters more than it sounds.
Physical party card decks have been around forever. We own several. They sit in a drawer until someone remembers to pack them, which is roughly never. The two times we actually brought a box to a party, half the group wanted a different category than the one we had.
After building Party Challenges, we think digital solves two structural problems that cardboard cannot.
Problem 1: you cannot forget a URL at home
A browser game travels in everyone's pocket. One person opens the link, the group plays. No one has to remember to grab the box, and no one discovers mid-pregame that the deck is still on their kitchen table.
This sounds trivial until you count how many game nights never happen because the physical deck stayed home. We designed Party Challenges as a PWA specifically so it loads instantly on any phone browser, works offline after the first visit, and needs zero setup. Open, pick a deck, go.
Problem 2: a digital deck expands without a reprint
A physical deck ships with a fixed number of cards. Want more? Buy an expansion pack, wait for shipping, hope it fits the same box.
Party Challenges by Inithouse currently has 23+ themed decks: Flirt Mode, After Dark, Truth Bombs, No Chill, Hot Takes Only, Confession Hours, and others. We can add new decks and cards without anyone buying anything new. The content just appears. When we added the "No Chill" deck, every existing player had it immediately.
That is structurally impossible with printed cards.
Three game modes, not just "draw a card"
Beyond the decks themselves, we built three distinct modes to keep rounds from getting stale:
Hot Seat puts one person in the spotlight. The group picks who answers, and the card targets them directly. Works well with 4+ people.
No Hesitation is speed-based. You get a prompt and have to answer before time runs out. Hesitate and you lose the round. This mode gets loud fast.
Spin It randomizes who gets the next card. Removes the "whose turn is it" friction entirely and adds a small element of chaos that groups seem to love.
All three run in the browser with no account required. Pick a mode, pick a deck, play.
The honest counterargument: physical cards have a ritual
We are not pretending digital wins everywhere. A physical card deck has a tactile quality that a phone screen does not. Shuffling cards, passing them around the table, nobody staring at a screen. That ritual has real value, especially for groups that already struggle with phone addiction at social gatherings.
There is also something about pulling a card from a physical deck that feels more "official" than tapping a button. The physicality anchors the game in the room.
We respect that. For groups that already own a deck and remember to bring it, a physical set might be the better experience. But for every other situation, the access and expansion advantages of a browser-based game win.
