A job board is a company's plan written as headcount. On 20 October 2026 I pulled every open posting from the public career boards of 10 AI companies: 2,698 jobs after deduplicating by URL. Then I asked three questions:
- How much of the hiring is on the sales side?
- How much of it is remote?
- What pay bands are published for engineers?
Everything below is computed from that one snapshot. No surveys, no estimates.
Disclosure: I built the data tool used here. Details at the end.
1. Nearly a third of the openings are sales-side
I did not classify job titles myself. I used each company's own department label from its Greenhouse or Ashby board and counted a job as go-to-market (GTM) if that label is Sales, Go To Market/GTM, Revenue, Revenue Operations, Marketing, Customer Success, Customer Experience, Business Development, Partnerships, Growth, Solutions or Solutions Architect. Every one of the 2,698 jobs had a department label.
| Company | Open jobs | GTM jobs | GTM share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cursor | 133 | 90 | 67.7% |
| Harvey | 341 | 174 | 51.0% |
| ElevenLabs | 157 | 78 | 49.7% |
| Lovable | 81 | 22 | 27.2% |
| Cohere | 116 | 30 | 25.9% |
| Perplexity | 133 | 33 | 24.8% |
| OpenAI | 807 | 199 | 24.7% |
| Together AI | 78 | 18 | 23.1% |
| Anthropic | 668 | 141 | 21.1% |
| Scale AI | 184 | 28 | 15.2% |
| All 10 | 2,698 | 813 | 30.1% |
What stands out:
- Cursor is the outlier. 90 of its 133 openings sit in Sales (38), Solutions (23), Marketing (12), Customer Success (11), Revenue Operations (5) and Partnerships (1).
- Harvey has 104 jobs in a department called "Go to Market" alone, plus Customer Success (24) and Marketing (24).
- ElevenLabs files 61 jobs under Revenue and 17 under Growth.
- OpenAI and Anthropic are the two largest boards (807 and 668 jobs) and sit in the low 20s: 199 GTM jobs at OpenAI (148 of them labelled "Go To Market"), 141 at Anthropic (121 Sales, 20 Marketing & Brand).
These shares are a lower bound. I did not count "Applied AI" (120 jobs at OpenAI, 60 at Anthropic) or OpenAI's "Forward Deployed Engineering" (31 jobs), even though many of those roles work with customers. If you count them as GTM, the all-company share rises from 30.1% to 38.0% (1,024 of 2,698).
2. Remote: two companies are mostly remote, most are not
I counted a job as remote when the employer's remote flag was set or "remote" appeared in the location.
| Company | Open jobs | Remote | Remote share |
|---|---|---|---|
| ElevenLabs | 157 | 136 | 86.6% |
| Cohere | 116 | 81 | 69.8% |
| Cursor | 133 | 54 | 40.6% |
| Anthropic | 668 | 64 | 9.6% |
| OpenAI | 807 | 55 | 6.8% |
| Perplexity | 133 | 8 | 6.0% |
| Harvey | 341 | 15 | 4.4% |
| Together AI | 78 | 1 | 1.3% |
| Lovable | 81 | 1 | 1.2% |
| Scale AI | 184 | 0 | 0.0% |
| All 10 | 2,698 | 415 | 15.4% |
ElevenLabs alone lists 136 remote openings, more than OpenAI (55) and Anthropic (64) combined (119), from a board about a tenth of their combined size (157 vs. 1,475 jobs). Scale AI lists none. The chart shows six of the companies; the table covers all ten.
3. Published engineering pay bands
For pay I kept job titles containing "engineer" or "developer", outside the GTM departments above, and excluded titles with sales, solutions, support, customer, forward-deployed, deployment, field, partner, recruiting, hardware, data center, intern, account, legal, manager, director, head of or lead. Then I took postings with a USD yearly range (min and max) and computed medians.
| Company | Eng. postings with USD band | Median min | Median max | Median midpoint | Most common band |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| OpenAI | 223 | $266,000 | $445,000 | $355,500 | $266k–$445k (40 postings) |
| Perplexity | 31 | $220,000 | $405,000 | $312,500 | $220k–$405k (25 postings) |
| Harvey | 56 | $210,500 | $290,000 | $260,430 | $231k–$340k (16 postings) |
| Cohere | 7 | $180,000 | $325,000 | $242,500 | (n too small) |
A few things the bands show:
- OpenAI's bands are both the highest and wide: the median posting spans $155k from min to max. The highest posted maximum in this set is $850,000 (a Research Scientist / Research Engineer role).
- Perplexity uses one band for most of its engineering roles: 25 of 31 postings say $220k–$405k.
- Harvey's bands are narrower, with a median max of $290k.
- Cohere posts many ranges in CAD, so only 7 engineering postings had a USD band. Treat that row as anecdotal.
What is missing: Anthropic, Scale AI, Cursor and Together AI (all on Greenhouse here) returned no structured salary field for any engineering posting, and ElevenLabs and Lovable had no USD yearly band on an engineering title. Some of these companies may state pay inside the job description text. I did not parse free text, so I make no claim about their pay.
Method and limits
- Snapshot: all boards pulled on 2026-10-20. Openings change daily.
- Source: each company's public Greenhouse or Ashby board, deduplicated by job URL.
- Companies: OpenAI, Anthropic, Harvey, Scale AI, ElevenLabs, Perplexity, Cursor, Cohere, Lovable, Together AI. I pulled xAI too but dropped it, because its board is shared with SpaceX, Starlink and X, so the numbers would not be xAI alone.
- Department labels are the company's own. They are not standardized. One company's "Revenue" is another's "Go To Market", and that is why I list the exact labels I counted.
- Open postings are not headcount. One posting can mean several hires, and evergreen postings stay up for months. A high GTM share says where a company is recruiting now, not how its team is split.
- Pay bands are posted ranges, often driven by pay-transparency laws in US states. They are not offers and do not include equity.
How I pulled the data
I built the Career Site Jobs API used here. It takes a list of companies, detects their applicant tracking system (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday) and returns every open job as JSON: title, department, location, remote flag, salary min/max/currency/period, posted date and URL. That is the data behind every table above, aggregated with a short Python script.
It costs $2 per 1,000 jobs, down to $1.50 on higher Apify plans. This snapshot of 2,698 jobs comes to about $5.40.
Try it: Career Site Jobs API on Apify
If you rerun the same pull later, the department labels make the GTM comparison easy to repeat: same companies, same labels, new date.
