Why I built this
I run ProxyTicker, a price index for residential proxies. I started it because the price on a provider's front page and the price I actually had to pay were never the same number. A "from $0.49/GB" label usually belongs to the largest plan, not the one you buy.
I'm a solo developer. I work on this in the evenings and I wrote the parsers myself. This post is about one finding in the data as of Oct 21, 2026.
How I calculate it
Once a day I read each provider's public pricing page. For a monthly volume of 5, 50, 500 or 1,000 GB I take the regular monthly price: the subscription where one is published, otherwise pay-as-you-go. Three numbers come out of it:
- From price: the minimum per-GB price on the provider's list, whatever volume it requires.
- Effective price: the monthly bill divided by the gigabytes you can use before unused traffic expires. This includes the minimum plan and the minimum deposit.
- Gap: effective price divided by From price.
Coupons and VAT are not included. The full rules are on the methodology page.
All statistics below use only providers where the deposit and the traffic expiry are confirmed (I mark these "fully verified"). On Oct 21, 2026 that is 29 providers. Three more are excluded because I haven't confirmed all their terms yet.
The 5 GB finding
At 5 GB per month the median effective price on Oct 21, 2026 is $3.50 per GB (29 fully verified providers). At 50 GB it is $2.45. For 17 of the 29 providers the effective price at 5 GB is at least 2 times their From price. For 4 of the 29 it is at least 5 times.
Three examples from the same day (Oct 21, 2026, 5 GB per month):
- Bright Data: From price $5.00, effective $99.80. The minimum deposit is $499 and unused traffic expires after 30 days, so at 5 GB a month you use 5 GB of it: $499 / 5 GB = $99.80.
- Evomi: From price $0.49, effective $9.80. The minimum deposit is $49 and unused traffic expires after 30 days, so at 5 GB a month you use 5 GB of it: $49 / 5 GB = $9.80. At 50 GB the same provider is $0.98 per GB.
- SOAX: From price $0.85, effective $20.10. The smallest plan is 67 GB at $3.00 per GB, a $201 bill. Unused traffic expires after 60 days, so at 5 GB a month you use 10 GB of it: $201 / 10 GB = $20.10.
I don't know why providers set deposits this way. For a small buyer the result is the same: the cost per GB you can use is far from the number on the front page.
Price by volume
Effective price per GB, Oct 21, 2026, fully verified providers only (n = 29 at every volume):
| Monthly volume | Lowest effective price | Median | n |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 GB | $0.792 (Geonode) | $3.50 | 29 |
| 50 GB | $0.693 (Geonode) | $2.45 | 29 |
| 500 GB | $0.49 (Evomi) | $1.70 | 29 |
| 1,000 GB | $0.49 (Evomi) | $1.50 | 29 |
The spread shrinks with volume. At 5 GB the range is $0.79 to $99.80 per GB. At 1,000 GB it is $0.49 to $5.25 per GB. The table is one day's snapshot.
What the data doesn't show
- Providers with unconfirmed terms (3 on Oct 21, 2026) are left out of every number above.
- These are list prices from public pricing pages. Discounts, coupons and anything you negotiate with sales are not counted.
- The effective price at a fixed volume is not always what you can get. The planner also tries bigger plans, so for your volume it can show a lower price per GB than the table above.
- Some prices on the site have a coupon code next to them. The code is not included in the price: a price that needs a coupon is not public, so the index uses the regular price.
- Prices change. Check the date next to any number.
