Grammarly and Letter Moth are not really competitors. Grammarly is a writing assistant that checks and improves text you have already written. Letter Moth drafts a LinkedIn note, cold email or job answer from the page you have open, so you are not starting from a blank box.
Many people will want both: a drafter to get a first version down quickly, and a proofreader to catch typos. If you have to pick one, the answer depends on whether your problem is blank-page paralysis or polish.
We make Letter Moth, so this is our perspective. We will keep our description of Grammarly general and suggest you check their site for current features.
Is Grammarly the same as an AI message writer?
Not quite. Grammarly is best known as a writing correction tool: grammar, spelling, clarity and tone suggestions on what you type. Over time it has added more generative features, so check its site for what your plan includes.
Letter Moth starts from a different input. You write a profile once. Then, on a LinkedIn profile, an email compose box or a job application, you click the toolbar button, and it drafts from the page text you approve.
One tool improves your sentences. The other produces the first draft from context.

What does Grammarly do better than Letter Moth?
Grammar and spelling, plainly. If you write long emails, reports, documents or anything where correctness across many apps matters, a dedicated proofreading assistant is the right tool. Letter Moth is not a grammar checker, and it does not review text you write yourself.
Grammarly also works across a broad range of writing situations. Letter Moth is intentionally narrow: outreach messages, replies and job-application answers.
If your writing is already good but you worry about typos, you probably want Grammarly or a similar proofreader, not another drafter.
Where does Letter Moth fit better?
When the hard part is starting. Looking at a stranger's LinkedIn profile and thinking of an opening line is slow. Letter Moth uses what is on the page, such as their role or a recent post, plus your profile, to produce a short note in a chosen tone: natural, professional, casual, warm or concise.
It reads the character limit of the box and trims the draft to fit, and it inserts the draft directly. Try the LinkedIn message generator page to see the idea.
It never sends anything and never clicks for you. You edit and send.
Can you use Letter Moth and Grammarly together?
Plausibly, yes. Letter Moth inserts a draft into a normal text box. If you have a proofreading extension active, it may mark up that text like anything else you type. Check that your specific combination behaves as you expect.
A sensible workflow: generate a draft, read it aloud, edit it into your own voice, then let a proofreader catch typos. Our guide to making AI-written messages sound human covers the editing step.
Do not skip your own read. A tidy message can still be generic.
How should you edit a draft before sending?
Whatever wrote the first version, a short checklist helps. Read the message aloud and cut anything you would not say in person. Check that names, titles and companies are right, because a drafting tool can only work from the text it was given.
Then ask one question: would this message make sense to the recipient if they had never heard of you? If not, add one concrete reason you are writing to them specifically.
- Confirm every fact about the recipient against their profile.
- Remove filler openers like a long greeting before the point.
- Keep one clear ask, such as a short call or a yes or no.
- Read it once more for typos, by eye or with a proofreader.
How do they differ at a glance?
Competitor products change, so verify the Grammarly column on its own site.
What does it cost and what are the limits?
For Grammarly, check their site for current plans and pricing. Letter Moth's free plan offers 10 drafts a day and 3 saved prompts with no card. Pro is unlimited, prepaid at INR 299 for 30 days or INR 2,499 for a year via UPI, card or net banking. It never auto-renews, and the first Pro purchase has a 7-day refund. See pricing.
Limits: Letter Moth is early and focused. It does not proofread documents, has no CRM or sequences and does not email for you. It reads page text only when you click, and you can untick parts before it drafts. If you want a drafter that stays out of your way, add Letter Moth to Chrome.
FAQ
Is Letter Moth a Grammarly alternative?
Not exactly. Grammarly mainly improves text you wrote. Letter Moth writes a first draft from the page. If you need grammar checking, Letter Moth will not replace it.
Do I need Grammarly if I use Letter Moth?
Not necessarily, but you may want a proofreader. Letter Moth drafts are usually clean, but you should still read and edit every message.
Which is better for LinkedIn messages?
For starting a note from someone's profile, Letter Moth is built for that. For polishing something you wrote, a proofreader helps. Our connection request guide shows what makes a note work.
Does Letter Moth check grammar?
It is not a grammar checker. It drafts new text and trims it to the box limit.
