When engineering access control for enterprise summits or government forums, static ticketing creates a massive security blind spot. If an accreditation system only validates a barcode at the front door, operations teams have zero visibility into where attendees move, whether restricted zones are breached, or if interior halls exceed legal fire safety capacities.
A frequent question we encounter when designing infrastructure for the GCC event management software market is: How can real-time data from accreditation systems be used to enhance event management and security?
The answer lies in transforming static credentials into continuous streams of spatial telemetry. By replacing manual barcode scanners with passive UHF RFID portals and piping that data through an edge-resilient ingestion pipeline, you can turn access control into a live security asset.
Here is the architectural blueprint for building a real-time event accreditation and security system using Go, Redis Streams, and SQLite.
1. The Edge: Passive RFID and Local Validation
To capture real-time data without creating physical bottlenecks, we issue dual-frequency smart badges (UHF EPC Gen 2) and deploy passive overhead RFID portals at the entrances of the venue and all restricted interior zones (e.g., VIP lounges, press rooms).
When a delegate walks through a portal, the edge controller (an ARM-based SBC) must validate their access level and log the entry in under 5 milliseconds. Relying on a cloud API for this validation is a major security risk; if the venue network drops or suffers a DDoS attack, the gates fail open or freeze.
We decouple the edge by running an embedded SQLite database in Write-Ahead Logging (WAL) mode. The controller syncs the master credential manifest locally, allowing it to validate badges and log entry attempts offline.
go
package main
import (
"database/sql"
"log"
_ "[github.com/mattn/go-sqlite3](https://github.com/mattn/go-sqlite3)"
)
func initSecurityEdgeDB() *sql.DB {
// Enable WAL to allow concurrent read/write during high-density ingress
db, err := sql.Open("sqlite3", "file:/var/security/edge_access.db?_journal_mode=WAL&_synchronous=NORMAL")
if err != nil {
log.Fatalf("Failed to initialize edge security DB: %v", err)
}
db.Exec(`PRAGMA temp_store = MEMORY;`)
// Create local log for access attempts (both granted and denied)
db.Exec(`
CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS access_logs (
id TEXT PRIMARY KEY,
epc_hash TEXT NOT NULL,
portal_id TEXT NOT NULL,
access_granted INTEGER NOT NULL, -- 1 for True, 0 for False
epoch_ms INTEGER NOT NULL,
synced INTEGER DEFAULT 0
);
CREATE INDEX IF NOT EXISTS idx_unsynced ON access_logs(synced);
`)
return db
}
2. Ingesting Telemetry at Scale (Go & Redis Streams)
When the venue network is active, the edge controllers continuously stream their access_logs to the cloud. A high-density event can generate thousands of access events per second across dozens of portals.
To prevent write locks on our primary relational database, we use a Go-based ingestion microservice that pushes the payloads directly into Redis Streams.
Go
func ingestAccessLog(w http.ResponseWriter, r *http.Request) {
var batch AccessBatch
json.NewDecoder(r.Body).Decode(&batch)
pipe := rdb.Pipeline()
for _, log := range batch.Records {
// O(1) insertion into an immutable stream
pipe.XAdd(ctx, &redis.XAddArgs{
Stream: "stream:security_telemetry",
Values: map[string]interface{}{
"epc": log.EPCHash,
"portal": log.PortalID,
"access_granted": log.AccessGranted,
"ts": log.EpochMS,
},
})
}
if _, err := pipe.Exec(ctx); err != nil {
http.Error(w, "Stream Ingestion Failed", http.StatusInternalServerError)
return
}
w.WriteHeader(http.StatusAccepted)
}
3. Real-Time Security Intelligence via WebSockets
A worker pool consumes stream:security_telemetry to compute live spatial metrics and detect security anomalies. This data is then broadcast via WebSockets to a live operations dashboard.
This real-time data enhances security and management in three specific ways:
Instant Breach Detection: If an attendee with a "General Admission" credential attempts to enter a "Speaker Only" green room, the edge portal denies access (logging access_granted = 0). The worker pool detects this anomaly and instantly pushes a WebSocket alert to the security dashboard, pinpointing the exact portal and the individual involved.
Civil Defense Capacity Enforcement: By computing the delta between IN and OUT events for specific portals, the system maintains a live, automated headcount for every enclosed hall. If a room hits 90% of its legal fire safety capacity, floor managers receive an automated alert to redirect crowd flow before a crush hazard occurs.
Dynamic Staff Deployment: The system computes rolling 60-second aggregations of transactions per minute at exterior gates. If a specific entrance experiences a sudden surge in volume, operations directors can deploy additional screening personnel to that specific lane before a physical bottleneck forms.
By pushing persistence to the edge and treating accreditation data as an active stream rather than a static log, you transform event ticketing into a comprehensive security apparatus.
