SparkyOS 2026.10 is an Arch Linux-based system designed to run entirely from USB while retaining files, settings and installed applications on the drive.
The release pairs Xfce with Linux kernel 7.2.11 and uses Yay to provide access to the AUR.
It is distributed as an IMG image for direct writing to USB; the documented minimum is 16 GB, with a 64-bit UEFI computer.
A computer in your pocket
Unlike traditional operating systems that are installed on a computer's hard drive, SparkyOS "lives" on your stick. This is not a temporary solution, as you can save files, settings and applications directly to the USB. All changes you make remain saved, allowing you to continue your work from any compatible computer, finding your environment exactly as you left it.
What you need to know about the system
The first version, released on October 20, 2026, is based on Arch Linux and uses the Linux 7.2.11 kernel with the Xfce desktop environment. Users can manage additional programs through the Yay tool, which offers access to a wide range of packages. The creators state that the basis of SparkyOS may change in the future, as the project aims to evolve into a flexible portable platform.
Conditions for use
Installation is simple: download the ready-made image file and transfer it to your USB drive. To get SparkyOS working, you will need:
