Flipkart is leveraging the ONDC network to enter the Indian food delivery market with a new service, "Eat-in by Minutes." Currently in internal testing with 8,000 employees, the platform aims to provide a lower-commission alternative for restaurant partners.
The strategy focuses on direct partnerships and infrastructure that contrasts with existing dominant players, with a public rollout planned for late October and a roadmap reaching into 2026.
The tests in practice
Flipkart is already testing the service internally, with around 8.000 employees. On the streets, participating delivery drivers will be displaying “Eat-in by Minutes” signage. The new feature will appear as a separate option within the app that customers already use to shop.
To deliver the food, Flipkart leverages the public ONDC ordering network, while also entering into direct partnerships with local restaurants.
The advantage of lower commission
One of the key points of Flipkart’s strategy is to lower costs for restaurants. While existing services charge commissions ranging between 20% and 25%, Flipkart is proposing a commission of around 10%. In this way, the company hopes to attract partners by offering a more cost-effective alternative to the current market-dominant providers, which serve tens of millions of customers annually.
