Android Auto often initiates automatic audio playback upon device connection, triggered by Bluetooth pairing commands or system-level events across both wired and wireless modes.
This post explores the technical realities behind this behavior and outlines actionable workarounds, ranging from adjusting the 'Start music automatically' toggle to managing specific application intent controls within the Android Auto interface.
Disabling auto-start
The most direct solution is in the Android Auto settings. Try turning off the switch that controls automatic music start:
- Open your phone's settings.
- Go to the connected devices menu and locate the Android Auto settings.
- Look for the "Start music automatically" option and disable it.
If the problem persists
If the above switch doesn't solve the issue, the cause may be the way your phone communicates with your car via Bluetooth. In this case, you can delete the pairing between the two devices and connect them again from scratch.
Keep in mind that some apps, like Spotify, may continue to play audio because they are being commanded by the Bluetooth device, regardless of Android Auto settings. If the problem persists for only one specific app, deleting it from Android Auto will stop the ability to control it from the vehicle display, thus resolving the autoplay issue.
