The fastest way to fail a behavioral interview is a vague story. "We migrated the service and it went well" sounds fine when you read it back to yourself. It falls apart the moment an interviewer asks, "What did you personally do?"
That's why I'd practice behavioral rounds out loud, with something that asks follow-ups. Here's how the AI options compare. I built one of them, DevInterview.AI, so I've marked it. Every price comes from the vendor's own site, checked on October 19, 2026.

DevInterview.AI: a full round that keeps asking
This is the one I built, so weigh that. You pick your level, junior through staff, and a target company. The questions are written for your level, and the interviewer plays a hiring manager at that company. It asks five questions in about 30 minutes, and when an answer stays general, it digs in the way real interviewers do: what did you personally do, and what happened as a result?
The report scores five competencies: leadership, conflict, ownership, problem solving and collaboration. Each score has to cite something you actually said, and it checks for the three things behavioral rubrics look for: a specific incident instead of a summary of your role, your own actions instead of the team's, and a concrete result.
The first interview is free, no card, and unlimited interviews are $19.99 a month. Every rating it has ever received is public on its reviews page.
Where it falls short: it's built for software engineering roles only, and it doesn't coach pacing or body language.
Yoodli: if your stories hold up but you ramble
Yoodli is an AI communication coach. You run roleplays by video, chat or with an AI avatar, with follow-up questions, and it gives feedback on delivery, clarity, pacing and effectiveness. It's sold mostly for workplace communication, and its pricing page lists interview prep as one use. Starter is free for 5 sessions in total; Pro is $8 a month and Advanced is $20 a month, billed yearly.
Big Interview: a course for any job
Expert-led lessons plus video-based practice questions, with feedback on your delivery, body language and content. It covers every kind of job, with playbooks for every career stage from new grads to senior executives. $39 per 30 days, $99 per 3 months, or $299 for lifetime access.
Hello Interview: self-paced practice
Its behavioral practice, part of Guided Practice, can read questions aloud, asks follow-up questions and gives instant AI feedback after every answer, in sessions from one question up to a full 5 to 6 question round, with an optional target company and level. Premium is $59 for 1 month, $119 for 1 year or $399 lifetime, with a sale running when I checked, and none of the plans auto-renew.
ChatGPT voice mode: free, if you do the structuring
Give it your level and the role, ask for one question at a time, and tell it to push back when an answer is vague. That works for drilling. It won't run a structured round for your level or score your stories against a rubric unless you script all of that yourself.
A routine that works with any of these
- Write 6 to 8 real stories that cover leadership, conflict, ownership, a failure and collaboration.
- Say each one out loud without notes, and time it. Two to three minutes is the target.
- Run a full mock with follow-ups. Follow-ups are where vague stories fall apart, so that's where the practice pays off.
- Rewrite your weakest story with a specific incident, your own actions and a number in the result. Then run it again.
Where this fits
Behavioral rounds are one part of step 3 in my 8-week study plan, which gives one tool per step: NeetCode for patterns, Hello Interview for system design, DevInterview.AI to practice out loud, and an optional session with a human interviewer.
Prices checked on each vendor's own site on October 19, 2026. The full comparison, with sources, is on devinterview.ai.
