Why Your Google Ads Spend Disappears With Few Leads

Imagine a jewellery brand spending ₹60,000 on Google Ads in a month. The dashboard shows 4,000 clicks and three orders, so the owner decides ads don’t work for her category. More often the ads aren’t the problem; the setup around them is. This post covers the usual leaks (search terms, landing pages, tracking, bidding and lead handling) so you can audit your own account or ask sharper questions of a PPC company in Jaipur, or anywhere else. Fixes are rarely glamorous, and none guarantee results, but they stop the obvious waste.
Read the search terms report before anything else
This report shows the actual words people typed before clicking your ad. It’s often humbling. A jeweller bidding on “gold necklace” may find clicks from “gold necklace price today”, “necklace drawing” and “jobs in jewellery shop”. None of them are buyers.
Broad match keywords paired with automated bidding make this worse, because Google stretches your terms to cover loosely related searches. Move your main keywords to phrase or exact match, and build a negative keyword list: free, jobs, images, DIY, repair, whatever fits your trade.
Check the report weekly in the first month, then every couple of weeks. Ten minutes of pruning often saves more than a week of redesign. Check location settings too. Targeting “people in” your area is usually safer than “people interested in” it, which can pull in clicks from elsewhere.
Your landing page may be the real leak
Sending every ad to the homepage is the most common mistake. A person who searched for “silver anklets under 2000” should land on silver anklets, not a banner about a new collection.
On a phone, check speed first. If the page takes several seconds to load, many visitors leave before they see the offer. Then make sure the offer and the next step are clear without scrolling, with one obvious action: a tap-to-call button, a WhatsApp link or a short form. Forms with ten fields lose people.
Stores need extra checks. A good “ecommerce marketing agency Jaipur” will look at delivery time, return policy, payment options and size or weight details on product pages before touching the ads. Shoppers need those answers to buy.
Tracking: are you counting the right things?
If your account counts page views or button hovers as conversions, Google learns to find people who browse, not people who buy. Set up conversions for the actions that matter:
Calls from ads and calls from your website
Form submissions
WhatsApp click-throughs
Purchases with the correct value, if you sell online
Offline sales, logged by asking “how did you find us?”
Then compare the account’s numbers with your own records every week. If the account says ten enquiries and your phone log says four, something is double-counting.
Any “performance marketing agency Jaipur” you shortlist should ask about tracking before touching your budget. If they start by promising lower costs and say nothing about measurement, be cautious. Tracking gaps are boring to fix, and they’re also why many accounts spend months optimising for the wrong thing.
Budget, bidding and timing
Smart bidding needs data to learn, and a small budget spread across ten campaigns teaches it nothing. Begin narrow: one or two campaigns on your highest-intent keywords, with enough daily budget to collect steady clicks. Avoid changing bids, budgets and ads every day, since each big edit can restart the learning period.
Think about timing as well. If nobody picks up the phone after 7 pm, don’t show call ads then. Ad schedules and call-only settings are easy to adjust.
When you ask a “Google Ads agency Jaipur” firm how they’d split a limited budget, listen for reasons, not jargon. A clear answer sounds like “we’d start with these two campaigns because these searches show buying intent.”
Lead quality matters more than lead count
An enquiry isn’t a sale. Speed of follow-up changes outcomes, so call back within minutes, not the next afternoon. Add one qualifying question to your form, like budget range or requirement, to filter out casual clicks.
Retargeting people who visited but didn’t convert can help, though it’s worth doing only after tracking works, and the ad accounts and pixels should sit in your name.
Keep the legal side tidy: discount claims and words like “best” or “guaranteed” can attract complaints under ASCI’s rules and consumer law, and anything collected through forms falls under the DPDP Act, 2023. Your legal advisor can confirm what applies.
A realistic first quarter
Month one is mostly cleanup: negative keywords, tracking, tighter targeting. Month two is where patterns start to show, and you can shift budget toward what’s producing enquiries. By month three you have enough data to decide whether to scale, change the offer or stop. Cost per lead varies by category, competition and season, so nobody honest can promise a figure upfront. Write down your starting numbers now (cost per click, conversion rate, cost per enquiry) so you can compare later. A sensible PPC company in Jaipur will agree a test budget, a review date and the numbers it will be judged on. Frequently asked questions
Why am I getting clicks but no enquiries?
Usually it’s one of four things: irrelevant search terms, a weak landing page, broken or missing tracking, or slow follow-up. Check the search terms report first, then submit your own test enquiry to confirm the form, call and WhatsApp tracking all work. Fix the cheapest problem first.
How much should I spend on Google Ads per month?
It depends on your cost per click, conversion rate and profit per customer. Work backwards from the number of customers you need. If your budget buys only a handful of clicks a day, narrow your targeting rather than spreading thin.
How long before Google Ads start working?
Ads can send traffic the same day, but useful data usually takes a few weeks. Expect the first month to go on testing and cleaning up queries. Judge cost per enquiry and lead quality over two to three months, not by daily swings.
Should I run Google Ads myself or hire help?
If your budget is small and you have time to learn, running them yourself is reasonable. Hire help when spend grows, the account gets complicated, or you lack time. Either way, keep the account in your own name and review search terms regularly.
