You sit down to work, determined to make progress. Twenty minutes later, you're checking messages, scrolling feeds, or staring at the wall. The intention was there. The follow-through wasn't.
This cycle — decide, start, drift, regret — is familiar to anyone who tries to do deep work in a world built for interruption. The Pomodoro technique helps by breaking time into focused sprints and deliberate breaks. But most timers feel clinical. They count down. They beep. They get out of the way.
PomoBeat takes a different approach. It keeps the structure you need — customizable focus sessions, short and long breaks, automatic cycling — and wraps it in an atmosphere that actually makes you want to stay put.
The timer itself is flexible: focus sessions from 10 to 120 minutes, breaks from 5 to 30, with an auto-start option so the rhythm never breaks. A persistent notification lets you pause or resume without unlocking your phone. Screen-on keep means the display stays alive during long sessions. Sound and vibration alerts mark each transition.
Where it stands out is audio. Fifteen built-in radio stations cover ambient, lo-fi chill, deep focus, electronic, and more. Four layered soundscapes — rain, cyber storm, analog keyboard, neon rain — run underneath, each with independent volume control. Background playback uses Media3 ExoPlayer, so audio continues even when you switch apps.
Visually, four theme packs (Cyberpunk, Retro Future, Neon Tokyo, High Contrast) shift dynamic gradients and futuristic fonts across an edge-to-edge design. The timer circle glows with animated progress. A Deep Focus Mode hides everything but the countdown for immersive sessions.
Progress tracking is practical, not performative. Session history shows total focus time and completed pomodoros. A 7-day bar chart reveals patterns. Current and best streaks give a quiet nudge. Data exports as CSV or JSON via share intent — yours to keep, analyze, or back up.
Privacy is built in, not bolted on. The app works 100% offline. No accounts. No data collection. No tracking. Everything lives locally on your device. It's free, lightweight, and built with modern Android architecture (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Material 3).
Full disclosure: this is a solo project. That means direct updates, personal support, and decisions made for users — not metrics.
