A Humanoid Robot Under $2,500 Just Launched — Here's What Devs Should Know

A humanoid robot now costs less than a specced-out MacBook Pro. Let that sink in for a second.

Faraday Future and FFR launched the FF Nova today — calling it the first embodied-AI humanoid robot priced below $2,500. Alongside it: the FF Nova Mini (aimed at physical-AI education) and a developer program built around something called Nova reinforcement learning.

And it's not the only one. AiMOGA (backed by Chery) opens global pre-orders for its Mobo home companion robot October 19–23. Two launches in one week. The affordable home robot category just went from "someday" to "add to cart."

Why should developers care?

Because the barrier to entry for embodied AI just collapsed.

Until now, humanoid robotics was a playground for well-funded labs and companies with seven-figure hardware budgets. A sub-$2,500 humanoid with a developer program changes who gets to experiment. Students, indie hackers, small teams — anyone curious about physical AI can now actually touch it.

The Nova Mini angle is the interesting one for devs. Physical-AI education hardware at consumer prices means university labs and bootcamps can put real robots in students' hands instead of simulators. If you've been watching the embodied AI space from the sidelines, the sidelines just got a lot closer.

What we actually know (and what we don't)

Honest framing: this launched today. There are no independent reviews, no teardowns, no real-world reliability data. Everything below comes from the launch announcements.

What we know:

• FF Nova: humanoid form factor, embodied AI, under $2,500
• FF Nova Mini: smaller unit positioned for physical-AI education
• Developer program with Nova RL (reinforcement learning) tooling
• AiMOGA Mobo: home companion robot, global pre-orders open Oct 19–23 at the Chery Summit

What we don't know:

• Real-world battery life, durability, failure rates
• How capable the "embodied AI" actually is outside demos
• Software maturity — SDK quality, docs, community support
• Whether the price holds or it's launch pricing

The elephant in the room

Faraday Future is a financially distressed company. That's not gossip — it's public record (NASDAQ-listed, well-documented struggles). A cheap robot from a shaky company carries real risk: warranty support, software updates, and long-term parts availability are all open questions.

That doesn't make the Nova uninteresting. It makes it a calculated bet rather than a safe purchase. Early adopters should go in with eyes open.

AiMOGA has a steadier backer in Chery (a major automaker), which arguably makes the Mobo the safer pre-order of the two — but again, no independent reviews exist yet.

What I'm watching

1. Mobo pre-orders (Oct 19–23) — pricing details and early order numbers will tell us if there's real consumer demand or just launch-day hype.
2. Developer program traction — does the Nova RL tooling attract actual builders, or does it stall after the announcement?
3. First independent reviews — the moment someone puts 100 hours on one of these, we'll know what's real.
4. The education angle — if the Nova Mini lands in classrooms, that's a long-term pipeline of embodied-AI developers. That matters more than any single product.

The bigger picture

Whether or not the FF Nova itself succeeds, the signal is clear: humanoid robots are entering the consumer price band. The companies that win this category will be the ones with the best developer ecosystems, not just the best hardware demos.

If you're a dev curious about robotics, this is the cheapest ticket into the arena we've ever seen. Just don't pre-order with money you can't afford to lose.

No affiliate links in this one — it's news, not a buying guide. When independent reviews land, I'll do a proper breakdown.
