VITI Magazine – Exclusive Special: The BIGF Paradigm Shift
Part 1: When Excel Was No Longer Enough – Erkki Laine & The Birth of BIGF
VITI: Erkki, welcome to the VITI hot seat. Let’s get straight to the point. Your framework, the Business Impact Governance Framework (BIGF), promises machine-verifiable decision governance, cryptographic safeguards, and mathematical operational guardrails. But honestly: was this born out of pure love for code, or was there a massive nervous breakdown in front of an Excel spreadsheet behind it?
Erkki Laine: (Laughs, takes a sip of black coffee) VITI, you hit the nail right on the head. Picture this: it’s 2:00 AM. Glowing on the screen is a file named BIA_Risk_Assessment_2023_v4_FINAL_edited_fixes_ERKKI_final2.xlsx. Suddenly, a critical formula cell screams #VALUE! because someone in another organizational silo typed the word "yes" instead of a number. At that exact moment, a 400-page regulatory pile of DORA and NIS2 lands on the desk from the EU. Right then and there, I realized humanity is heading straight back to the Stone Age if we try to govern autonomous AI and multi-cloud environments using software originally engineered in the 90s to calculate accounting travel expenses.
VITI: So it was pure survival instinct?
Erkki Laine: 100% pure survival. I looked in the mirror and thought: "Erkki, you’ve watched this circus of service delivery and compliance audits for nearly 30 years. Either you cry yourself to sleep every night over meeting-driven bureaucracy, or you encode regulatory mandates directly into the runtime engine so the machine enforces the rules and you can actually sleep." I chose the latter.
VITI: Your specifications emphasize Canonical Decision Records (CDR), Ed25519 cryptographic signatures, and strict agent authority boundaries. To a typical executive, this sounds like AI agents calling the corporate shots while humans merely spectate. Aren’t you afraid Skynet will wake up and bankrupt the enterprise using your code?
Erkki Laine: (Smiles calmly) Quite the opposite. In BIGF, the whole point is the fail-closed containment cage. In traditional governance, people tell an AI to "be ethical and careful." That’s like tossing the keys of a tuned supercar to a teenager and hoping for the best. In BIGF v2.4, we bolt an engine governor onto the car at the code level and weld the doors shut. Guardrails are computed deterministically with 10^-4 fixed-point arithmetic without any floating-point rounding quirks. If an agent tries to go rogue or telemetry drops, the gate slams shut instantly before it can even utter the word "ChatGPT".
VITI: What about that runtime tri-axial steering envelope? Sounds like a warp drive straight out of Star Trek.
Erkki Laine: It practically is the enterprise architecture warp drive! It means we stop asking the IT manager in Teams chat: "Hey, mind if we take down this database for scheduled maintenance?"—to which they always reply 15 minutes later, "Uh, I don't think so." The machine computes and verifies in real time: if this cable is pulled, in 5 seconds we violate regulatory law, in 10 seconds we bleed a million euros, and in 15 seconds the CEO is on the national news explaining the outage. All verified in milliseconds—without a single meeting. As we say: if a meeting is required for steering, it's already too late.
VITI: Sounds like traditional process consultants and Excel wizards are heading straight for the unemployment line?
Erkki Laine: Well, let's put it this way: if your core competency was copying numbers from System A to System B and coloring Excel cells yellow-to-green for executive steering committees, I recommend updating your CV immediately. But for those who actually want to steer business value, operational resilience, and continuity, this is a jailbreak.
VITI: Erkki Laine, thank you for your time. We wish BIGF massive success and zero #VALUE! errors in the future.
Erkki Laine: Thank you, VITI. And remember: life is way too short for manual audits!
P.S. Wondering if this is just satire or actual system architecture?
Just Google it: erkki laine big framework 😉
