A rebrand rarely stops at the website. Months or years of promo videos, product demos, social cuts, and event recaps still carry the old logo in a corner, on a lower-third, or baked into an end card. Left alone, they quietly contradict the new identity every time someone shares them.
This article walks through a practical workflow for auditing a video library, deciding what to clean, removing the old logo, and adding the new visuals. It's written for agency editors and brand content managers who need a repeatable process rather than a one-off fix.
Step 1: Audit the Library Before Touching Anything
Start with a spreadsheet, not an editor. List every video that is still publicly visible or likely to be reused, then record:
- Logo position: corner bug, center watermark, lower-third, end card, or integrated into the scene (signage, packaging, uniforms)
- Logo behavior: static, fading in and out, or moving with the camera
- Source availability: do you have the original project file, or only the exported MP4?
- Reuse value: is this asset still active, or is it better retired?
The last column matters most. A three-year-old campaign teaser that nobody links to is usually better unpublished than rebuilt. Spend effort on evergreen assets: product walkthroughs, brand films, onboarding videos, and top-performing social clips.
Step 2: Sort Videos Into Three Repair Paths
Once the audit is done, most videos fall into one of three buckets.
Path A: Re-export from source. If you still have the project file and the logo is a separate layer, swap it and re-render. This is always the cleanest option. No cleanup tool beats an original layer.
Path B: Remove and replace. The logo is burned into a flattened export and the source is gone. This is where removal tooling earns its place, and it's the focus of the rest of this article.
Path C: Retire or reshoot. The old logo is part of the physical scene, such as a storefront sign, a uniform, or product packaging that has since changed. Removing it convincingly across moving camera shots can be difficult, and the result may not be worth the risk. Mark these for retirement or reshoot.
A useful rule of thumb: if the logo sits on a flat, mostly static region of the frame, it's a good removal candidate. If it wraps around moving objects or crosses busy detail, expect more manual review.
Step 3: Prepare Files for Removal
Before processing, tidy the batch:
- Export or collect the highest-quality version you have. Re-compressing an already compressed file compounds artifacts.
- Check format and size. Common delivery formats like MP4, MOV, and WebM are widely supported by cleanup tools, but confirm limits before queuing a batch of large files.
- Note the timestamp range where the logo appears. Many brand videos show the logo only in the intro, outro, or a specific segment, which lets you focus your review.
- Confirm you have the rights to edit each file. Client footage, stock clips, and third-party contributions may carry restrictions.
Step 4: Remove the Old Logo
For a fixed corner bug or watermark, the typical approach is to select the region containing the logo and let an AI model reconstruct the background behind it. Keep the selection tight but not clipped: include the full logo plus a small margin for soft edges or drop shadows, but avoid selecting large areas of useful detail.
For logos that move through the shot or complex targets, a region box may not be enough. Some tools let you describe what to remove in text instead, which can help when the object travels across the frame.
Where remover.work fits
remover.work is an AI image and video cleanup tool, and its watermark and logo removal feature handles this exact scenario. For a fixed watermark or logo, you can box-select the region to remove. For moving objects or more complex targets, you can switch to a text prompt describing what should go. If you want to try this workflow on your own footage, you can use remover.work remove any logo to get started.
A few practical details relevant to a library cleanup:
- 5s Free Preview: the first 5 seconds of a video can be previewed before you commit. For brand work, this is a useful sanity check, since many logos appear right at the start of a clip.
- Pay-as-you-go: full tasks use credits with no mandatory subscription, and credits are deducted only when a task succeeds. That suits agencies handling a rebrand as a defined project rather than an ongoing expense.
- Formats and size: MP4, MOV, and WebM are supported, with a maximum of 1GB per file.
Like any AI cleanup tool, results depend on the footage. Busy backgrounds, motion blur, and semi-transparent logos are harder than a solid logo over a calm surface, so treat the preview as your first quality gate rather than a guarantee.
Step 5: Add the New Brand Visuals
Once the old logo is gone, finish the job in your editor:
- Place the new logo using the updated brand guidelines for size, clear space, and position. Don't automatically reuse the old logo's position, since the new mark may have different proportions.
- Replace end cards and lower-thirds with updated templates.
- Cover small residual artifacts: if a faint smudge remains where the old logo was, the new logo placement or a subtle graphic element can sit over that area. This is a legitimate design solution, not a shortcut, as long as the final frame looks intentional.
- Update color and typography in any on-screen text to match the new system.
Step 6: Quality Checks Before Publishing
Run each cleaned video through this checklist:
- Scrub frame by frame around the former logo area, especially during cuts, camera moves, and fades.
- Watch at full screen and at phone size. Flicker or texture shimmer that's invisible on a thumbnail can show up on a large display.
- Check the edges: look for halos, blur patches, or repeated texture where the logo used to be.
- Check consistency across the clip: the filled area should hold steady across frames rather than pulsing or shifting.
- Compare against the original side by side to confirm nothing else changed.
- Verify the new logo matches brand specs in every version (16:9, vertical, square).
- Get sign-off from the brand owner before replacing live assets.
If a clip fails two or more of these checks, move it to Path C. A retired video costs less than a visibly patched one.
A Note on Process and Governance
Treat the rebrand cleanup like a small production project. Keep original files archived and untouched, name outputs with a version suffix, and log which videos were cleaned, replaced, or retired. This protects you if a client asks what changed, and it makes future updates much easier.
Also be clear on usage rights. Only process footage you own or are authorized to edit. For general background on how brand consistency affects recognition, the Nielsen Norman Group publishes accessible research on brand and user experience, and Adobe's Premiere Pro documentation covers the editing steps for replacing graphics and exporting multiple aspect ratios.
Wrapping Up
A rebrand is only complete when the old identity is gone from the places people actually see it. A simple audit, three repair paths, careful removal, and a strict review checklist turn a messy backlog into a manageable project. Prioritize evergreen content, use source files whenever you have them, reach for removal tools when you don't, and be willing to retire anything that can't be cleaned convincingly.
