How to Make a QR Code for Free: No Signup, With Logo, No Expiry
Need a QR code for your website, WiFi password, restaurant menu, or business card — and you don't want to create yet another account or hit a "free trial expired" wall? Making a free QR code online takes about 30 seconds, but picking the right generator matters: most "free" QR code generators gate the good features (logo, high-resolution download, no expiry) behind an email signup or a paid plan. In this guide I'll show you how to generate a QR code for free with no signup, add your logo to it, and make sure it never expires — using a tool that does all of this in your browser.
Is there a truly free QR code generator with no signup?
Yes — but you have to read the fine print. Many popular QR code generators let you make one or two codes for free, then ask you to sign up for analytics, editing, or higher-resolution downloads. What I recommend is a generator that works entirely in the browser: you type in your content, customise the code, and download it as a PNG or SVG — no account, no email gate.
Toolxz's QR Code Generator does exactly this. It supports URLs, SMS, WiFi credentials, and VCards (digital business cards), lets you embed your own logo in the centre of the code, apply professional colour schemes, and export high-quality PNG or SVG files. Generation happens instantly in real time as you type. There's no signup and no download cap — it just works.
This is the setup I use whenever I need a quick QR code: open the page, paste a link, tweak the look, download. Under two minutes, every time.
How do I add my logo to a QR code for free?
Adding your logo is the feature that makes a QR code look professional instead of generic — and it's the one most often locked behind a paywall. The good news: free generators with logo embedding do exist, and QR error-correction means a small centred logo won't break scanning (the code still scans reliably because the missing data is rebuilt by the reader).
On Toolxz, the flow is:
- Open the QR Code Generator.
- Choose your content type — URL, SMS, WiFi, or VCard — and fill in the details.
- Upload your logo image to embed it in the centre of the code.
- Pick a colour scheme that matches your brand (dark modules on a light background scan best — more on that below).
- Download as PNG for screens or SVG for print.
One practical tip: keep your logo small and centred, roughly no larger than 20–25% of the code's width. If you make the logo too big, some phones will struggle to scan it. Test-scan the finished code with two or three different phones before printing anything — a QR code that doesn't scan at the checkout counter or on a printed menu is worse than no QR code at all.
Do free QR codes expire?
This is the most common question people ask — and the most common trap. It depends on whether the code is static or dynamic:
- Static QR codes encode the destination directly into the pattern itself. They work forever. Nobody can turn them off, charge you for them, or delete them, because there's no server in the middle.
- Dynamic QR codes point to a short link on the provider's server, which then redirects to your real URL. The destination can be edited later and scans can be counted — but you're dependent on that provider. If you stop paying, the redirect dies and your printed codes stop working.
For most use cases — a restaurant menu, a business card, a WiFi password on a fridge sticker — a static code is exactly what you want: free, permanent, and zero ongoing cost. Toolxz's QR codes are static, so they don't expire and can't be deactivated. If you need editable destinations or scan analytics, you'll need a paid dynamic QR service — that's the honest trade-off, and it's worth knowing before you print 500 flyers.
How do I make a QR code for WiFi?
This is one of the most searched uses of QR codes, and one of the most useful: a guest scans the code and joins your network without typing a password. You can do it for free in seconds:
- Open the QR generator and select the WiFi option.
- Enter your network name (SSID), password, and security type (WPA/WPA2 for most home routers).
- Download the code and print it, stick it on the fridge, or frame it in your café or Airbnb.
Guests connect with one scan — no dictating passwords letter by letter, no "was that a capital I or a lowercase l?" If you run a café, co-working space, or Airbnb, a printed WiFi QR card near the entrance is a small touch guests genuinely appreciate. Since the code is static, you only need to reprint it if you actually change the password. I use the same flow for a home-guest network — one printout, done for years.
How do I make a QR code for a restaurant menu or business card?
Two more high-demand use cases with the same free workflow:
- Restaurant menu: pick the URL type, paste your online menu link (or a Google Drive/PDF link), embed your restaurant's logo, and download a high-resolution PNG or vector SVG for print. Because it's static, the code keeps working forever — but remember you can't change the link later, so point it at a menu page you control rather than a temporary link.
- Digital business card (VCard): choose the VCard type and enter your name, phone, email, and company. Scanning it opens a "save contact" prompt on the other person's phone — no typing, no mistakes. This is great for networking events and print-on-demand business cards.
In both cases, export the SVG version for print materials. SVG is vector, so it stays razor-sharp at any size — from a business card to a shop-window poster. PNG is fine for screens and small prints.
How do I make sure my QR code actually scans?
A free QR code is useless if phones can't read it. Five practical rules:
- Contrast matters most. Dark modules on a light background — ideally black on white. Fancy low-contrast colour schemes (grey on beige, yellow on white) are the number one reason QR codes fail.
- Keep a quiet zone. Leave a clear white margin around the code, roughly the width of one module (the small squares). No text, logos, or borders touching the code.
- Size it for distance. A code scanned from across a room needs to be bigger than one on a business card. For print, 2×2 cm is a practical minimum for close-range scanning.
- Test before you print. Scan the finished code with at least two different phones (iPhone and Android cameras read codes slightly differently) at the distance people will actually use it.
- Short URLs scan better. A 200-character URL makes a dense, busy code that's harder to scan. If your link is long, that's one reason a static code might struggle — keep destinations short.
FAQ
Is there a free QR code generator with no signup?
Yes. Toolxz's QR Code Generator works fully in the browser — no account, no email, no download limits.
Can I add a logo to a QR code for free?
Yes. Upload your logo and it gets embedded in the centre of the code; QR error correction keeps it scannable as long as the logo stays small.
Do the QR codes expire?
No — they're static codes, so the destination is encoded in the pattern itself and works permanently, with no ongoing cost or account needed.
What's the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?
Static codes are permanent but uneditable; dynamic codes are editable and trackable but require a paid service. For menus, WiFi, and business cards, static is usually the right choice.
Can I download the code for printing?
Yes — export as PNG for screens or SVG (vector) for print, so the code stays sharp at any size.
The takeaway
You don't need an account, a subscription, or a design tool to make a professional QR code. Pick the content type (URL, WiFi, SMS, or VCard), embed your logo, check the contrast, test-scan it, and download the PNG or SVG. Thirty seconds of work, zero cost, works forever.
