For an example, consider a user who is unable to access a business application. This incident needs to be recorded, categorized, assigned for further assistance, investigated, and resolved.
ITSM provides a framework for such processes.
Learning ServiceNow ITSM will assist the learner in learning the concepts that can help address such activities.

ServiceNow ITSM offers a platform-based approach for such a scenario.
As a service desk professional, ITSM training will assist the learner to get to know about the progression of a service support activity from a user's request or incident up through its investigation, resolution, recording, and follow-up.
This makes ITSM relevant for all who wish to know about the business case as well as the technical aspects of the ServiceNow platform.

For those that are looking for Best ServiceNow ITSM Training in Noida at techmyindia, a structured learning path on ServiceNow ITSM concepts can be beneficial.
A Sample ITSM Workflow
Consider a scenario where a user has reported an issue with a company application that is currently not working.
The service desk may go through the following steps:
Report → Record → Categorize → Assign → Investigate → Resolve → Close
Each of these steps has an objective in the process.
The initial report for the incident needs to be recorded properly and assigned to the relevant team for investigation before resolution. This information also supports future incident prevention and management activities.
By understanding the entire scenario, the learner can find that it has given them some insight into ITSM.
Incident Management and Problem Management
Incident Management and Problem Management are two critical elements of ITSM, yet they are completely different from each other. While they both are related to resolving unplanned or unauthorized service interruptions, one focuses on restoring the service immediately while the other focuses on identifying and resolving the root cause of the problem.
In ITSM, an incident usually is an interruption or reduction in the quality of a service. The primary goal of incident management is to control and minimize the impact of the incident and restore the service to its normal state as soon as possible.
However, not all incidents are equal in terms of their impact and urgency, and some incidents tend to be more critical and complex in nature. Similarly, some problems tend to be much more serious and complex than others. As a result, there are different levels of incident management and problem management that classify incidents and problems based on their impact, urgency, and complexity.
Understanding this difference is key to mastering ServiceNow ITSM.
Change Management in an IT Environment
Modern IT environments constantly require changes and upgrades to applications, systems, processes, and infrastructure. Change management is the formal process of requesting, assessing, authorizing, and documenting changes in order to ensure that they are implemented and controlled in a structured and efficient manner.
Through learning ITSM, the student can be familiarized with the various aspects of change management, including the change process, change approval, change implementation, and change evaluation.
This approach will enable the student to understand how changes can be aligned to IT service management needs.
Service Requests and Service Catalog
Not all interactions with the IT department are considered incidents. In addition to incidents, IT departments also receive service requests from users who need specific services or information.
The Service Catalog is a structured repository of all available services and resources that users can request.
By going through these concepts, the student can be better able to understand the differences between an incident and a service request.

Why Practical Examples Matter
ITSM concepts can seem challenging to grasp at first due to the sheer number of interconnected processes and terms.
Practical examples help break down these complex concepts and make them easier to understand.
For example, the student can go through a fictional employee incident scenario, from its initial recording to its resolution and closure, and determine whether it might be part of a larger incident pattern.
Or, they can go through a change management scenario where a change to a system is proposed, reviewed, implemented, and monitored to ensure that it has the desired effect.
By going through practical examples, the student can not only understand what a particular ServiceNow feature is for, but also why the feature exists and how it fits into the broader context of IT service management.
