What web hosting actually costs in India in 2026 — including the 18% GST nobody quotes

Every "cheapest hosting in India" post quotes the same number: ₹69 a month.

That number is real. It is also not what leaves your bank account. I went through Hostinger's India pages on 20 September 2026 and worked out what you actually pay — including the three things the sticker price leaves out.

I should say up front: I write about hosting and my site carries affiliate links. The prices below are copied off the vendor's own India pages, and I have linked to those pages so you can check every figure yourself.

Problem 1: the advertised price has no GST in it

This is not a conspiracy — it is printed in Hostinger's own footer:

Prices are listed without GST

Web hosting bought in India attracts 18% GST. So the real monthly rate on every plan is 18% higher than the headline:

If you are GST-registered you claim this back as input credit, so it costs you nothing in the end. If you are not — most solo developers, students and side-project builders — you simply pay it.

Problem 2: "₹69/month" is not billed monthly

The ₹69 rate requires a 48-month term, paid in one go. The monthly framing is just division.

There is nothing dishonest about this — the cart shows the total before you pay. But "₹69/month" and "₹3,908 today" land very differently when you are a student deciding whether to start a blog.

Problem 3: the renewal, which is where the real money is

This is the part that catches people, and it is the reason I started keeping a spreadsheet.

The discount applies to your first term only. After that you pay the renewal rate:

Add GST and that second term on Premium is ₹25,431.

No coupon, referral code or promo applies to a renewal. I have tested this and so has everyone who has written about it. Which leads to the one genuinely useful piece of advice in this post:

The term length you pick at signup matters more than the headline price. Locking four years at the sale rate is the entire discount. Picking a one-year term to "try it out" means you hit the renewal rate three years earlier.

Same pattern on VPS

If you are a developer, you are more likely to want a VPS. Same structure, slightly gentler:

KVM 4 carries the deepest discount in the range (69% off) and therefore the harshest renewal. That is not a coincidence — the bigger the advertised discount, the bigger the gap it is measuring from.

I wrote up the full per-plan breakdown with specs and cart behaviour here: Hostinger KVM VPS plans in India.

One thing India actually gets right

Worth saying, because it goes the other way: UPI and RuPay both work at checkout. Most overseas hosts are card-only, which is a real barrier if you are a student without an international card. That is a genuine practical advantage over a lot of the US-based competition.

How to actually decide

Skip the comparison tables for a second. Three questions:

1. Will this site still exist in four years? If yes, take the long term — the discount only exists there. If you are not sure, a shorter term costs more per month but you lose less when you abandon it.
2. Are you GST-registered? If yes, mentally strip the 18% back out; it is not your cost. If no, budget the real number.
3. What happens at renewal? Write the renewal figure in your calendar now, not in year four. Everyone I know who felt "scammed" by a host had simply never looked it up.

That third one is the whole game. The hosting industry is not hiding the renewal rate — it is printed on the page. People just do not read it, because the ₹69 is in 48-point type and the renewal is in 11-point grey.

The figures

Everything above was read off Hostinger's India pages on 20 September 2026 and converted at 18% GST. Sale prices move — if you are reading this months later, check the live page rather than trusting my table.

I keep an updated version with every plan, term and renewal rate here: Hostinger plans and pricing in India. There is also a hosting cost calculator if you want to model your own term length rather than read a table.

If you have been burned by a renewal you did not see coming, I would genuinely like to hear which host and how bad — I am collecting these. Drop it in the comments.
