Modern startups face a strucztural dilemma: infrastructure costs scale faster than revenue. Server provisioning, database maintenance, GPU clusters, and DevOps overhead consume capital that early-stage companies cannot spare.

HYNAWEB, a technology holding company operating a global developer ecosystem, solved this problem by eliminating the traditional backend entirely.

This case study documents the serverless architecture powering HYNAWEB's product suite — and how a zero-server model delivers global scale at near-zero fixed cost.

📊 The Infrastructure Challenge

HYNAWEB operates four live products serving a global user base:

• KODA — an AI-powered coding mentor
• Dojo Feed — a gamified developer social network
• KODA Code Jam — a global 7-day build tournament
• APIC — a privacy-first image processing suite (via partner Akhouri Systems)

Each product requires authentication, persistent storage, real-time updates, and AI inference. A conventional architecture would require dedicated servers, managed databases, and GPU hosting — a fixed monthly cost regardless of traffic.

HYNAWEB's constraint-driven design required a different model: pay only for usage, scale to zero when idle, and place security logic in the data layer itself.

🏗️ The Four-Layer Serverless Architecture

Layer 1: Data & Identity — Supabase (PostgreSQL + RLS)

HYNAWEB does not operate a database server. All persistent state lives in managed PostgreSQL with Row Level Security (RLS) enforced at the database layer.

• Authentication, session management, and password recovery are handled by the managed auth engine.
• Security policies are declarative: unauthorized queries are rejected by the database itself, not by application middleware.
• Realtime subscriptions power Dojo Feed's live leaderboards without WebSocket server infrastructure.

Architectural principle: Security belongs in the data layer, where it cannot be bypassed by a compromised frontend.

Layer 2: AI Inference — Groq + OpenRouter Fallback Chains

KODA's intelligence layer consumes external inference APIs rather than self-hosted models.

• Primary routing targets low-latency inference endpoints (Groq).
• Automatic fallback chains reroute failed requests to secondary providers (OpenRouter).
• Every request logs its model_served telemetry, enabling provider-level reliability analytics without operating a single GPU.

Architectural principle: Inference is a utility, not an asset. Rent intelligence; own the orchestration.

Layer 3: Edge Compute — Vercel & Cloudflare Workers

Where server-side logic is required — webhook handling, key protection, request validation — HYNAWEB deploys stateless edge functions.

• Functions deploy on Git push and scale to zero during idle periods.
• Secrets live in environment variables, never in client bundles.
• Edge execution delivers sub-100ms responses across global regions.

Architectural principle: Compute should exist only at the moment of request, and nowhere else.

Layer 4: Client-Side Processing — WebAssembly (APIC)

The heaviest workload in the ecosystem — image processing — runs entirely inside the user's browser via WebAssembly and on-device AI segmentation.

• Zero uploads. Zero server bandwidth. Zero storage cost.
• Privacy becomes a byproduct of architecture, not a policy promise.

Architectural principle: The cheapest server is the one the user already owns.

💰 The Cost Economics

Result: Fixed infrastructure cost approaches zero. Marginal cost scales linearly with real usage. The ecosystem can survive months of zero revenue without infrastructure bankruptcy.

🔐 Security Posture

• Row Level Security as the primary authorization boundary
• Environment-variable secret management via edge functions
• Client-side processing eliminating data-in-transit exposure for media workloads
• Continuous internal audits of AI output for insecure code suggestions

🗺️ Roadmap: Q4 2026

1. Migrate all inference calls behind Cloudflare Workers for full key isolation.
2. Introduce edge-cached leaderboard reads to reduce database load by an estimated 70%.
3. Publish monthly infrastructure cost transparency reports.

👥 The Team

HYNAWEB was founded by a 12-year-old developer building entirely on a $150 Android phone, in strategic partnership with the founder of Akhouri Systems — proof that architectural discipline matters more than hardware budget.

📌 Conclusion

HYNAWEB's architecture demonstrates that the traditional backend is no longer a requirement for global-scale products. By composing managed data layers, rented inference, edge compute, and client-side processing, a small team can operate an international ecosystem at near-zero fixed cost.

The server is dead. The architecture is the product.
