Have you noticed an unexpected $29.99 or $9.99 charge from DRAMABOX or STORYMATRIX appearing on your credit card every week?
You are not alone. Thousands of users get lured in by short 1-minute video clips on TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook, only to find themselves trapped in an aggressive, hidden weekly subscription.
Here is the exact breakdown of how DramaBox signs you up, why deleting the app won't stop the charges, and how to cancel it and force a full refund.
What is DramaBox & Why Were You Billed $29.99?
DramaBox (operated by StoryMatrix) is a pay-per-episode mobile vertical drama platform.
When you unlock episodes to finish a cliffhanger, the app frequently pre-checks an "Auto-Renewal Coin Pack" option. Instead of a one-time payment, you are silently enrolled in a recurring weekly subscription billed at $9.99 to $29.99 every 7 days.
On your credit card or bank statement, it typically appears as:

Step-by-Step: How to Cancel & Get Your Money Back
⚠️ Critical Warning: Simply deleting or uninstalling the app from your phone does NOT cancel recurring billing. Follow this 3-step checklist immediately:
Step 1: Shut Down the Subscription at the Root
Most DramaBox subscriptions are billed through Apple or Google:
- On iPhone/iPad: Open Settings > tap your Apple ID profile at the top > Subscriptions > tap DramaBox > tap Cancel Subscription.
- On Android: Open Google Play Store > tap your profile icon > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > select DramaBox > Cancel subscription.
Step 2: Request an Immediate Store Refund (The Fast Way)
Both Apple and Google have strict policies against deceptive in-app subscription renewals:
-
For iOS Users: Go to
reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, select "Request a refund", choose "My purchase does not work as expected" or "I didn't mean to renew this", and submit. Apple automated systems approve most first-time requests within 48 hours. - For Android Users: Go to Google Play account history and request a refund within 48 hours of billing.
Step 3: What if Billed Directly to Your Credit Card?
If you entered card details directly on the web and support refuses to cooperate:
- You are protected under federal Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA) regulations against deceptive negative-option billing.
- Notify your card issuer to block recurring debits and file an unauthorized transaction dispute.
