Building a food delivery platform like HelloFresh is more than creating an ordering interface. The backend needs to support meal catalogues, subscriptions, payments, order management, delivery workflows, notifications, and customer data.
The cost to build a food delivery app like HelloFresh in Australia depends on the product scope, platforms, backend architecture, APIs, integrations, UI/UX, and development approach.
Core Components
A typical MVP could include:
- 🍱 Meal and menu management
- 📱 Customer accounts and profiles
- 🔄 Subscription management
- 💳 Secure payment processing
- 📦 Order management
- 🚚 Delivery tracking and updates
- 🔔 Push notifications
- 🛠️ Admin dashboard
Once the core platform is validated, teams can add AI-powered meal recommendations, personalised menus, loyalty programs, analytics, and automated customer support.
Think About Architecture Early
A scalable backend is important because subscriptions, payments, inventory, orders, and delivery workflows all interact with each other.
For startups, building a focused MVP first can reduce unnecessary development while creating a technical foundation that can support future features.
The goal isn't to replicate every feature from an established platform on day one. It's to build the right foundation and expand based on user demand.
