India’s solar manufacturing sector is expected to experience major developments by 2030. As market needs evolve and solar technology continues to advance, the industry is likely to become more integrated, technology-focused, and competitive in global markets.
One of the most significant developments is expected to be greater integration across the solar manufacturing value chain. India is likely to strengthen its capabilities in wafers, cells, and modules, helping create a more connected domestic manufacturing ecosystem. Companies operating across several stages of production may benefit from improved control over costs, quality, and technological development.
The adoption of higher-efficiency solar technologies is also expected to gain importance. Manufacturers are likely to introduce advanced cell technologies and more efficient production methods to develop higher-performing solar modules. With global solar technology continuing to evolve, regular investment in upgrading manufacturing facilities will become increasingly important for companies seeking to remain competitive.
India’s domestic solar supply chains are also expected to become deeper and more diversified. Production of components, materials, and equipment required for solar manufacturing could increase within the country. A broader domestic supplier network may give manufacturers better access to important inputs while also increasing the amount of value generated within India.
Solar demand is likely to become more diverse by 2030. While utility-scale projects are expected to remain an important part of solar deployment, rooftop solar, commercial and industrial projects, and hybrid renewable energy systems are also likely to grow. Emerging applications, including data centres and green hydrogen, could create additional opportunities for solar manufacturers as their demand for renewable electricity increases.
Exports are expected to play a larger role in India’s solar manufacturing sector. Indian manufacturers may expand their presence across international markets, including Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Success in these markets will require companies to meet varying technical standards, product specifications, and customer expectations while maintaining competitive costs, consistent quality, and reliable delivery capabilities.
Automation and digital technologies are also likely to become increasingly common in solar manufacturing facilities. Automated production lines, digital quality-control systems, real-time monitoring, and data analytics can help improve manufacturing consistency and operational efficiency. As production facilities become larger and more advanced, these technologies are expected to play an increasingly important role in managing operations and maintaining product standards.
The sector could also experience greater consolidation by 2030. Larger manufacturers with integrated operations, advanced technologies, and efficient production systems may have greater opportunities as competition increases. At the same time, smaller manufacturers may focus on adopting newer technologies, specialising in particular segments, or expanding their manufacturing capabilities to remain competitive.
Another important trend is likely to be a stronger focus on the productive utilisation of manufacturing capacity. Manufacturers may place greater emphasis on production planning, facility utilisation, and their ability to respond quickly to changes in domestic and international demand. Efficient utilisation of manufacturing facilities is expected to become increasingly important as competition within the sector intensifies.
By 2030, India’s solar manufacturing industry is expected to feature a broader domestic value chain, more advanced technologies, increased automation, and a stronger presence in international markets. The sector is also likely to support a wider range of applications as solar power becomes increasingly connected with green hydrogen, data centres, storage, and hybrid renewable energy.
India’s solar manufacturing industry is therefore expected to become more integrated, technologically advanced, and globally connected by 2030. Companies operating in this evolving environment are likely to focus on combining modern technology and efficient production with the ability to meet the requirements of both domestic and international markets.
