If you search "make money with AI music," you will find screenshots, absolute income claims, and playbooks that skip rights. This post separates what was reported from what was estimated, and what a beginner can actually do in the first 30 days.
I maintain TryAISong as an independent AI music monetization publication. Every case on the site is labeled: self-reported, third-party estimate, reported deal, or documented audience metric.
What the headlines actually show
Self-reported royalties — A Suno creator (u/redneckicon) reported about $10,800 in combined June royalties, with earlier months described as lower. That is a self-report, not an audited statement. Source coverage: EDM.com.
Third-party estimates — Kapwing modeled top AI music acts and estimated roughly $6.1M from 2.3B streams/views for a top-10 set. Estimates depend on assumed payout rates and ownership. Source: Kapwing study.
Reported deal — Billboard reported that AI R&B project Xania Monet (created by poet Telisha Jones using Suno) signed a multimillion-dollar deal with Hallwood Media after bids around $3M. Headline deal value ≠ cash in hand. Source: Billboard Pro.
Documented audience spike — The Velvet Sundown, a confirmed synthetic project, peaked near 1.5M monthly Spotify listeners, then fell to about 594K within weeks. Audience ≠ revenue. Sources: Berklee, Music Ally.
Nine paths (pick one first)
Treat these as lanes, not lottery tickets:
- Streaming / distribution
- YouTube / YPP
- Short-form sounds
- Direct sales (Bandcamp / packs)
- Commissions & jingles
- Sync licensing
- Stock music
- Packs / beats / memberships
Beginners usually learn faster with one buyer and one offer (often commissions or a narrow YouTube niche) before building a giant catalog.
Rights are part of the product
Tool commercial permission, copyright, distributor acceptance, YouTube disclosure, and Content ID eligibility are separate gates. Satisfying one does not force the others. Platform policies change—verify current terms before release.
A practical 30-day plan
- Days 1–3: define one buyer, deliverable, and rights scope
- Days 4–10: finish three proof examples
- Days 11–20: publish process notes + talk to ten relevant people
- Days 21–30: review signals, tighten the offer, only then scale

Earnings are never guaranteed. If a post does not label evidence type, treat the number as marketing until you can verify it.
