Stop opening your tech reviews with spec sheets. Nobody cares about a 3nm architecture until you give them a reason to care. If you want viewers locked in past the 30-second mark, you need to master the Logic Gap.
The Logic Gap is a copywriting framework that creates an intentional contradiction between a premise and a conclusion. The human brain hates unresolved paradoxes. When you present two statements that logically shouldn't exist together, your viewer's brain gets an itch it has to scratch by watching the video.
Here’s how it works in practice:
Boring Standard Hook:
"Testing the new $4,000 M3 Max MacBook Pro
for video editing."
(Predictable. Zero curiosity.)
Logic Gap Hook:
"I bought Apple’s most powerful laptop... and immediately throttled its performance. Here’s why it actually made my editing workflow twice as fast."
Wait. Throttling a machine makes it faster? That doesn't make sense. That is the Logic Gap.
Here’s another one for PC builders:
- Standard: "Is upgrading to 128GB of RAM worth it?"
- Logic Gap: "Why adding 64GB of RAM to my rig actually crippled my render times."
How to execute the framework:
- Identify the Tech Norm: Find a universally accepted belief (e.g., "Higher specs = better performance" or "More expensive gear = higher quality output").
- Introduce the Contradiction: Show a real scenario where doing the exact opposite produced a better result.
- Delay the Resolution: Tease the answer in your intro, but save the logical breakdown for the middle of your script.
Tech audiences pride themselves on logic. When you break that logic in your opening sentence, curiosity takes over, retention skyrockets, and the algorithm rewards you.
