Most cold emails die in the inbox. Not because the product is weak — because the first two lines sound like every other email the prospect got that morning.
I spent a week analyzing which cold email openers actually get replies, and the pattern is boring: the winners don't pitch. They reference something real — a mutual contact, a specific observation, a problem on the prospect's own website — and they ask for almost nothing.
Below is one of the highest-performing introduction templates from my Cold Email Mastery pack, exactly as it appears in the product. Copy it, fill in the brackets, send it today.
The Mutual Connection Opener (Template #2)
Subject: [MUTUAL_CONTACT] suggested I reach out
Hi [NAME],
[MUTUAL_CONTACT] mentioned you're looking to [SOLVE_PROBLEM].
We've helped [SIMILAR_COMPANY] achieve [RESULT] in [TIMEFRAME].
Can I send you a quick case study?
[YOUR NAME]
Why this one works
- The subject line does the heavy lifting. A name the prospect recognizes beats any clever phrasing. If you have a genuine mutual contact, use it. If you don't, the next template below is your friend.
- "Looking to [SOLVE_PROBLEM]" mirrors the prospect's own internal language instead of describing your product. People reply to emails that talk about them.
- The ask is tiny. "Can I send you a quick case study?" is a yes/no question that costs the prospect nothing. Calls get deferred; PDFs get opened.
The Problem Spotter (Template #4) — for when you have no mutual contact
Subject: Noticed something on [COMPANY] website
Hi [NAME],
I was on your site and noticed [SPECIFIC_ISSUE]. Companies in [INDUSTRY] typically lose [STAT] from this. We fix it in [TIMEFRAME].
Want me to send a quick audit?
[YOUR NAME]
The trick: [SPECIFIC_ISSUE] must be real and verifiable in 10 seconds. "Your pricing page doesn't mention the free tier" gets replies. "Your website could be better" gets deleted.
The 30,000-foot view
These are 2 of the 30 templates in Cold Email Mastery — the full pack covers 6 categories: 5 introduction openers, 5 follow-ups (including the breakup email), 3 multi-touch sequences, 5 subject line formulas, reply handling for "not interested", "no budget", and "we already have a vendor", plus 7 advanced tactics — trigger events, video intros, champion enablement and more.
If you sell anything B2B, the follow-up sequence alone pays for itself — most replies come from touch 2 and 3, not touch 1.
Prefer to grab everything at once? The Template Forge Complete Bundle includes all 9 packs (160+ templates — resumes, business emails, pitch decks, freelancer docs and more) at 48% off.
