If you have been following F9XR Team or bookmarked any of our guides, you may notice something different today. We have officially moved from f9xr.github.io to our permanent home at f9xr.org.
This is more than a simple URL change. For business owners, startups, and local businesses, a custom domain signals professionalism, builds trust, and supports long-term growth in both traditional search and AI-powered answer engines.
In this post, we explain why we made the move, what stays the same, what improves, and how you can apply the same thinking to your own online presence.
Why We Left GitHub Pages for a Custom Domain
GitHub Pages served us well in the early days. It was free, reliable, and easy to maintain while we focused on creating practical content for Indian businesses and growing startups.
Over time, the limitations became clear:
- The .github.io subdomain can look less professional to first-time visitors.
- Branding stays tied to a third-party platform.
- Custom email, advanced analytics, and certain performance tools work better on a dedicated domain.
- Search engines and AI systems tend to associate custom domains with higher authority and longevity.
Moving to f9xr.org gives us full control. It lets us present a cleaner brand, improve load times, and prepare the site for stronger visibility in Google, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and other answer engines.
What Changes for You
The good news is simple: almost nothing changes in the content you already know.
- All existing articles remain available.
- Redirects are in place so old links continue to work.
- The same practical advice on local SEO, website performance, and AI visibility stays front and center.
What improves:
- Cleaner URLs that are easier to share and remember.
- Stronger brand consistency across every page.
- Better foundation for future tools, client resources, and case studies.
- Improved technical signals that help both Google and AI search systems understand and trust the site.
How a Domain Move Supports SEO and AEO
Search engines and AI systems look for signals of stability and ownership. A custom domain is one of those signals.
When a site lives on a free platform subdomain, it can face subtle disadvantages in brand recognition and long-term authority. Moving to a dedicated domain, combined with correct redirects and consistent content, helps maintain rankings while opening the door to stronger performance.
For local businesses and startups, this same principle applies. Owning your domain makes it easier to:
- Set up professional email addresses.
- Control Google Business Profile connections.
- Build consistent NAP (Name, Address, Phone) data.
- Create a clear identity that AI systems can cite with confidence.
If you are new to domain strategy, our complete guide to buying a domain name for your business walks through the decision process step by step. And if you want to understand why domain signals matter to AI answer engines specifically, our post on increasing your website trust score covers the technical foundations.
Practical Steps for Your Own Domain Migration
If you are considering a similar move, here is a simple checklist based on what we did:
- Choose a clean, memorable domain that matches your brand.
- Set up 301 redirects from every important old URL to the new equivalent. Google's official guide on 301 redirects{:target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"} explains the mechanics in detail.
- Update Google Search Console and resubmit your sitemap. Google's site migration documentation{:target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"} covers the steps for different migration types.
- Check internal links so nothing points to the old domain.
- Monitor traffic and rankings for a few weeks after the switch. Ahrefs has a practical website migration checklist{:target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"} that covers the monitoring side.
- Update social profiles, directories, and email signatures with the new URL.
Doing these steps carefully protects the equity you have already built.
A monthly review catches problems early. If you want a standing process for this, our monthly website audit checklist gives you a repeatable routine that covers domain health, redirects, and technical signals alongside other essentials.
Key Takeaways
- A custom domain builds more trust than a free subdomain for most business audiences.
- Proper 301 redirects protect your existing search rankings during a migration.
- Domain choice affects how both Google and AI answer engines perceive your brand.
- Businesses that own their domain have more flexibility for email, analytics, and growth tools.
- F9XR Team now operates fully from f9xr.org with the same focus on practical digital results.
