ShowDev: I built a real-time 3D pay-to-rank skyline auction for web apps

Hey DEV Community! 👋

I recently built and launched https://websiterank.lol/
— an experimental web app where founders, creators, and projects bid in real-time to occupy top positions in an interactive 3D visual skyline.

🛠️ The Tech Stack

Frontend: Interactive WebGL / 3D viewport rendering optimized for frame-rate performance across desktop and mobile browsers.
Auction Engine: Low-latency state sync with ~1.2s settlement times to instantly render real-time tower growth and bid updates.
Analytics & Attribution: Integrated server-side tracking to capture real-time visitor stats and verified clicks.
SEO Engine: Automated entity profile generation to pass contextual backlinks and signal E-E-A-T to search crawlers.

💡 Why Build a Pay-to-Rank Skyline?

Traditional directory listings and launch platforms are mostly static, text-heavy tables. I wanted to experiment with 3D spatial hierarchies and gamified real-time bidding to give makers a more engaging way to gain direct global traffic.

How the Auction Works:

Place a Bid: Starts at $1 minimum.
Climb the Skyline: Higher bids raise your site's tower height and dominance in the 3D grid.
Capture Direct Clicks: Top spots capture live visitor traffic, while your custom domain portfolio builds long-term backlink authority.
