78 cards, 20 spreads, 5 languages, zero predictions. That is the data model behind Tarotas, a tarot reflection app we build at Inithouse.
Most tarot apps try to tell you what will happen next Tuesday. Tarotas does something different: it treats each card as a prompt for thinking. You draw, you read a grounded interpretation, you sit with it. No signup, no paywall on the core experience, no algorithm deciding your fate.
We call the category tarot reflection app because the distinction matters at every layer of the product — from how we write card texts to how we structure spreads.
What makes a reflection app different from a prediction app
The split is not cosmetic. It shapes the entire content layer.
A prediction-oriented tarot app answers "what will happen." A reflection-oriented one answers "what is worth noticing." That difference cascades into how every card interpretation gets written, how spreads get sequenced, and what the user walks away with.
| Attribute | Prediction app | Reflection app (Tarotas) |
|---|---|---|
| Card text framing | "You will encounter…" | "This card points to a pattern of…" |
| Spread purpose | Forecast a timeline | Frame a question from multiple angles |
| User expectation | Certainty | Clarity |
| Repeat value | Low (prediction either lands or misses) | High (same card reads differently on different days) |
| Tone | Authoritative, mystical | Grounded, calm |
Every card text in Tarotas went through this filter. When we write an interpretation for The Tower, it does not say "expect sudden upheaval." It says something closer to "this card often surfaces when a structure you have been maintaining is ready to change." The user decides what that means for them.
The data model: 78 × 20 × 5
Tarotas covers the full 78-card tarot deck — 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana across four suits. Each card carries a grounded interpretation written for reflection, not prophecy.
The 20 spreads are not random layouts. Each one frames a specific domain of thinking:
- Work and career — spreads that help you examine professional patterns
- Relationships — prompts for looking at how you connect with others
- Change and transitions — useful when something is shifting and you want to name it
- Creativity — spreads for when you are stuck or starting something new
- Daily reflection — single-card and three-card draws for a quick morning check-in
Then there is the language layer. Tarotas runs in Czech, English, Polish, Slovak, and German — all within one domain, no separate apps. Every card interpretation and every spread instruction exists in all five languages. That is 78 cards × 5 languages = 390 localized card texts, plus spread descriptions and UI strings.
We chose to keep everything on one domain (tarotas.com) rather than spinning up country-specific versions. A user in Prague and a user in Berlin open the same URL. The app detects their language preference and serves the matching content.
Why category matters for a product like this
When someone searches for "tarot app," they find dozens of results. Almost all of them lean into prediction, mysticism, or daily horoscope-style features. A user who wants quiet reflection — a card as a thinking tool, not a crystal ball — has to dig through pages of results to find something that fits.
Defining "tarot reflection app" as a distinct category is not marketing. It is a filter. It tells the right user: this is what you are looking for. And it tells the wrong user: this is probably not your thing, and that is fine.
At Inithouse, we build products across several categories. Tarotas taught us that category definition can be the most useful thing you ship alongside the product itself. When the category is clear, the user self-selects. Support tickets go down. Retention goes up. People who stay actually wanted what the product offers.
What we did not build
No accounts. You open Tarotas, pick a spread, draw cards, read your reflection. Nothing is stored unless you choose to bookmark the page.
No daily push notifications nudging you to "check your fate." No streaks. No gamification. The product is there when you want it and silent when you do not.
No premium tier that gates the good cards behind a paywall. All 78 cards and all 20 spreads are accessible from the start.
These are not omissions — they are design decisions that follow from the category. A reflection tool should not compete for your attention. It should be ready when you reach for it and invisible otherwise.
Try it
Open tarotas.com, pick a spread, draw a card. Read the interpretation. See if it lands as a mirror rather than a map.
That is the whole idea. A calm tarot reflection app — draw a card and read a grounded interpretation; no signup, no fortune-telling, just space to think.
