Apple Maps Follows Google in Renaming Lake Ontario “Lake America”
Apple Maps now labels Lake Ontario as “Lake America” for U.S. users, matching a change Google Maps made earlier in the week, according to The Verge. The switch follows an executive order from President Trump amid a trade dispute with Canada. Apple Maps in Canada still shows “Lake Ontario,” and Canadian officials have said they won’t adopt the new name.
Sonos Debuts Beam Ultra Soundbar and Ace Ultra Headphones
Sonos held an event to unveil the $699 Beam Ultra soundbar and $449 Ace Ultra headphones, along with several under-the-hood app updates, according to The Verge. Reviewers who got an early listen away from the noisy show floor said the Beam Ultra sounded great on first impression, though a full review will need to wait for quieter conditions.
Leaker Claims New iPhone 18 Pro Colors
A Weibo leaker says the iPhone 18 Pro will come in three new colors, per 9to5Mac, though other leakers have offered conflicting color lineups and Apple hasn’t confirmed anything. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to be unveiled next week. If a new iOS update ever throws off your car’s display in the meantime, our CarPlay troubleshooting guide covers the most common fixes.
Apple Lets Mac App Store Developers Drop Intel Support
Apple has begun telling developers that universal Mac App Store apps requiring macOS 13 or later can now drop support for Intel-based Macs, reports 9to5Mac. Developers who make the switch can simplify their builds, but Intel Mac owners will stop getting updates for those apps once a developer drops support, though they can keep using the last compatible version already installed.
GTA VI’s Netflix Preview Racks Up 31 Million Views
Rockstar’s extended-look preview of Grand Theft Auto VI drew 31.1 million views on Netflix over its first four days, making it the streamer’s top movie globally for the week even though it was only available there for a six-hour exclusive window before moving to YouTube, according to Engadget. Rockstar has since posted the same extended look to its own YouTube channel, where it’s picked up additional views.
Is Your TV at Risk of OLED Burn-In?
OLED TVs carry the highest risk of burn-in — permanent ghosting from static images left on screen too long — but a little common-sense screen care can prevent most cases, according to Engadget.
