1. Why Businesses Are Switching from AWS to Alibaba Cloud

The shift from AWS to Alibaba Cloud in the Asia Pacific region is driven by several compelling factors. Let's break down the key reasons behind this trend.

1.1 Superior Asia Pacific Infrastructure

Alibaba Cloud has invested heavily in building out its infrastructure across the Asia Pacific region. With data centers in Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Sydney, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Manila, and Bangkok — Alibaba Cloud offers more APAC regions than many competing providers. This extensive footprint means lower latency and better performance for users across the region.

• 20+ global regions, with deep coverage across Asia Pacific

• Singapore region serves as the APAC hub with multi-AZ deployment

• Lower latency for users in China, Southeast Asia, and broader APAC

• Compliance certifications including ISO 27001, SOC, GDPR, and more

1.2 Significantly Lower Pricing

One of the most compelling reasons to switch is cost. Alibaba Cloud consistently offers lower pricing compared to AWS — particularly in the Asia Pacific regions. For comparable configurations, businesses can expect savings ranging from 20% to 50% on compute instances alone.

1.3 Strong AI and Big Data Capabilities

Alibaba Cloud is a leader in AI infrastructure, with a comprehensive portfolio of AI and big data services. From GPU instances optimized for deep learning to fully managed AI platforms like PAI (Platform of Artificial Intelligence), Alibaba Cloud provides cutting-edge tools for businesses looking to leverage AI and machine learning.

• GPU instances with NVIDIA A10, V100, and A100 options

• Fully managed machine learning platform (PAI)

• DeepSeek AI models natively integrated

• Big data analytics with MaxCompute and E-MapReduce

1.4 Localized Support and Ecosystem

For businesses operating in the APAC region, having local support and understanding of the market is invaluable. Alibaba Cloud provides localized customer support, local language services, and deep integration with the broader Alibaba ecosystem — including e-commerce, logistics, and digital payment platforms.

2. Pricing Comparison: Alibaba Cloud vs AWS (Singapore Region)

Let's compare the pricing of equivalent compute instances in the Singapore region — the most popular APAC hub for international businesses.

Note: Prices are approximate on-demand rates for reference only and may vary based on OS, billing method, and promotions. Long-term subscriptions (1-3 years) with Alibaba Cloud typically reduce costs by an additional 30%-50%. Check current promotional pricing →

2.1 Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Analysis

When comparing cloud providers, it's important to consider the total cost of ownership, not just compute instance pricing:

• Storage: Alibaba Cloud OSS is generally priced lower than Amazon S3 for both storage and data transfer

• Data Transfer: Outbound data transfer costs are significantly lower with Alibaba Cloud

• Load Balancing: Alibaba Cloud SLB pricing is more competitive than AWS ELB/ALB

• Database: ApsaraDB RDS pricing is typically 20-30% lower than Amazon RDS for comparable specs

• Channel Discounts: Authorized channel partners offer additional exclusive pricing on top of published rates

3. Performance Benchmarks

Price is important, but performance is equally critical. Let's look at how Alibaba Cloud ECS stacks up against AWS in real-world performance.

3.1 CPU Performance

Both providers use the latest generation Intel and AMD processors. In independent benchmark tests comparing equivalent instance types, Alibaba Cloud ECS instances deliver comparable — and in some cases better — CPU performance than their AWS counterparts. The g7 and c7 instance families use the latest Intel Xeon Scalable processors and offer excellent price/performance ratios.

3.2 Network Performance

3.3 Storage Performance

Alibaba Cloud's ESSD (Enhanced SSD) cloud disks deliver industry-leading performance with ultra-low latency and high IOPS. The latest ESSD PL3 and AutoPL tiers offer up to 1 million IOPS per volume, making them suitable for even the most demanding database workloads.

4. Global Infrastructure Comparison

4.1 Alibaba Cloud Global Footprint

• 28+ regions worldwide

• 86+ availability zones

• APAC: Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Manila, Bangkok, Mumbai

• China: 10+ regions across mainland China

• EMEA: Frankfurt, London, Dubai, Riyadh

• Americas: Silicon Valley, Virginia, Mexico City, Sao Paulo

4.2 AWS Global Footprint

• 32+ regions worldwide

• 102+ availability zones

• APAC: Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney, Mumbai, Jakarta, Hong Kong

• Broader presence in North America and Europe

4.3 Key Difference: China Connectivity

For businesses that need connectivity to mainland China — whether for serving customers, operating e-commerce storefronts, or supporting supply chain operations — Alibaba Cloud has a significant advantage. As a Chinese-based company with deep roots in the domestic market, Alibaba Cloud offers the most reliable and optimized connectivity to China.

5. How to Migrate from AWS to Alibaba Cloud

Migrating from one cloud provider to another requires careful planning. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you make a smooth transition.

5.1 Phase 1: Assessment and Planning
