The question isn't which CRM scales — it's which ceiling you hit first
Every comparison of Folk and Attio eventually devolves into "it depends on your needs," which is useless when you're trying to avoid a forced migration six months from now. The more useful lens: which specific, documented cap does each tool hit as your team grows, and does that cap arrive before or after your expected usage? That's the question this comparison answers — with exact numbers from each platform's published plans, not marketing copy.
| Tool | Starting price | Key documented limit | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Folk | $0 (free tier) | 2,000 Magic Field credits/month workspace-wide on Standard ($24/user/month annual) | Consultants, agencies, relationship-led sellers |
| Attio | $0 (free tier, up to 3 users) | 200 email sends/month with "Sent with Attio" branding on Free; sequences locked to Pro ($69/user/month annual) | Technical founders, GTM teams with complex data models |
Folk's ceiling is its workspace-wide AI credit pool — not its contact limit
Most guides lead with Folk's simplicity and stop there. The more revealing number is what happens to its AI features under real outbound pressure. On the Standard plan at $24/user/month (billed annually), Folk gives the entire workspace — not each seat — 2,000 Magic Field credits per month and 500 enrichment credits per month. Upgrade to Premium at $48/user/month and those rise to 5,000 Magic Fields and 1,000 enrichment credits, still shared across the whole team.
For a solo consultant or a two-person agency doing light prospecting, those limits are comfortable. For a five-person outbound team running daily enrichment and AI-assisted field population, the workspace pool drains fast. Folk's system is simpler to understand than Attio's — there's no dual-credit complexity — but the workspace-wide cap means every teammate is drawing from the same bucket. That's the ceiling that hits relationship-led small teams first, not some abstract "scalability" concern.
Folk still earns its place for consultants, agencies, and investors who sell through relationships rather than funnels. The folkX Chrome extension captures contacts from LinkedIn, X, and websites in a single click. Native WhatsApp integration is included — rare at this price point. Email campaigns unlock at Standard ($24/user/month annual), and AI-powered multi-step sequences arrive at Premium ($48/user/month annual). For anyone whose workflow centers on LinkedIn prospecting and conversational follow-up, Folk's outreach tooling is genuinely ahead of Attio's at equivalent price points.
The Attio upgrade trap: three features that all require Pro
Attio's free plan is real — up to 3 users, no credit card required, and it includes automatic contact and company enrichment with firmographic data like employee count and funding rounds. That's a meaningful free tier. But three capabilities that growing teams almost always want are all locked behind the same paywall: Pro at $69/user/month (billed annually).
Custom objects — the feature that makes Attio's object-based data model actually flexible — require Pro. Email sequences require Pro. Call Intelligence for meeting recording and transcription requires Pro. If you start on Free or Plus and your team grows into any one of those three needs, you're jumping to $69/user/month. With a five-person team, that's a meaningful cost step that arrives earlier than most buyers anticipate.
The AI credit situation compounds this. On Plus, the workspace gets 1,500 shared workspace credits per month. Pro raises that to 10,000. When those run out, add-on packs cost $70/month for 5,000 credits, $120/month for 10,000, or $265/month for 25,000. For teams running active workflow automations, the monthly bill becomes genuinely hard to predict — a cost trap that Folk's simpler credit structure avoids, even if Folk's absolute limits are lower.
Attio has the most headroom on data modeling — but you pay for it upfront
If your sales motion involves complex relationships — partnership tracking, investor pipeline, multi-product deals, or any scenario where you need to define custom object types and bi-directional relationships between records — Attio is the only tool in this comparison that supports it. Folk cannot create custom object types or model entity relationships the way Attio does. What Folk's spreadsheet-style interface gives you is what you get.
Attio's object-based architecture can handle large datasets — filtering and sorting across 50,000+ contacts without slowdown — and its modern API and MCP integration support let technical teams connect it to any tool in their GTM stack. But all of that structural headroom sits behind the Pro plan at $69/user/month annually. The flexibility is real; so is the price of accessing it. Teams that need a flexible schema and are willing to invest setup time get genuine capability headroom. Teams that want to be running in minutes will find the upfront configuration burden significant before they ever hit a plan cap.
The capability gap Folk can't close: no custom objects, no complex deal modeling
The single most consequential confirmed gap in Folk is structural, not cosmetic. Folk has no custom object types. You cannot model a relationship between a Partner and a Deal the way Attio lets you. You cannot build a multi-stage investor tracking workflow that links People, Companies, and custom funding-round objects. The spreadsheet-style interface with pre-built pipeline templates is Folk's deliberate design choice — and for its target users, it's the right one. But it means Folk is not a tool that grows into complex B2B sales operations. It's a tool that stays excellent at what it does and requires a migration when your data model outgrows it.
This is the switch-forcing gap that most comparison guides underplay. It's not that Folk lacks a feature you might want someday — it's that the absence of custom objects is an architectural limit, not a missing checkbox. A consultant managing a network of 500 contacts will never hit it. A SaaS startup that starts on Folk and later needs to track multi-product deals across segmented company hierarchies will hit it and need to move.
Pick by which ceiling clears your 12-month usage — not by which demo looks better
If your team is two to four people doing relationship-led sales, consulting, or investor outreach — and your primary workflow involves LinkedIn prospecting, conversational follow-up, and light email sequences — Folk at $24/user/month (Standard) or $48/user/month (Premium) covers the ground you need. The workspace-wide AI credit caps are the limit to watch, but they sit well past what a small relationship-focused team actually consumes.
If your team needs custom objects, complex pipeline modeling, or email sequences as a core workflow — not an afterthought — Attio Pro at $69/user/month is the honest starting point, not a stretch goal. The Free plan's 200-email-per-month cap with forced branding and the Plus plan's 1,500 shared AI credits are not viable for active GTM teams. The Pro tier is where Attio's documented capabilities actually match what growing sales teams need.
The decision rule is concrete: if you will never need to define a custom object type or model relationships between entity types, Folk is faster, cheaper, and better at outreach. If you will need that flexibility within 12 months, pay for Attio Pro now rather than migrating later — because Folk's architectural ceiling on data modeling is not something a plan upgrade fixes.
