Tourist Season Playbook: From Translation to Rescue
Peak tourist seasons—March to November—bring crowds to icons like Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak), Hamdeok Resort beaches, and Seogwipo Café Street. But language barriers, cultural differences and high footfall can lead to disputes, pickpocketing or even accidents.
Jeju West Police’s response is three-pronged:
- Multilingual support: 112 emergency calls now come with real-time interpretation in English, Chinese and Japanese, backed by printed guides.
- Targeted patrols: During peak hours (2–6 PM), daily patrol squads sweep hotspots. CCTV coverage has been expanded by 30% at Hamdeok Resort, and lifeguard stations now stand at Seongsan Ilchulbong to prevent fall-related injuries.
- Prevention campaigns: Officers host daily safety briefings and distribute flyers warning travelers about fake accommodation scams and beach theft.
