1. What Breadth Measures

Advances: stocks closing up
Declines: stocks closing down
A/D line: cumulative (adv − dec)

If NIFTY up but A/D line down → divergence → weak rally.

2. Three Breadth Signals

Cumulative adv−dec. New high in NIFTY + new high in A/D = healthy.

McClellan Oscillator

19-day EMA(adv-dec) - 39-day EMA(adv-dec)
> +100 = overbought/breadth thrust
< -100 = oversold

Breadth Thrust

Advance/Total > 80% in one day after being <40% = thrust (historically bullish 6-12m).

3. NIFTY Regime Filter

if NIFTY up AND A/D up: BROAD UP -> buy calls / bull spreads
if NIFTY up AND A/D down: NARROW -> avoid new longs, sell premium
