The first hour
sets the whole day.
Spend it on the inbox
and you've handed
your sharpest hour
to other people's priorities.
You start the day
reacting.
You never stop.
Your attention
is freshest
right at the start.
It will not be this clear
again until tomorrow.
That hour
is the most valuable
one you own.
So don't spend it
on the shallow stuff —
the messages,
the small fires,
the easy dopamine
of clearing a list.
That work
can be done tired.
Save it for tired.
Give the fresh hour
to the hard thing.
The thing that needs
your whole mind.
The thing you'll otherwise
push all day
and never reach.
The world will ask
for that hour.
It always asks.
Guard it anyway.
Do the deep thing first,
before the day
has a chance
to decide for you.
Win the first hour
and the rest
forgives a lot.
