SaveBuddy – A Simple Chrome Extension to Save & Manage Your Favorite Links
Every day we open dozens of tabs in Chrome, and eventually lose track of important links. Digging through bookmark folders takes time, and the clutter keeps growing.
I needed a lightweight, no-nonsense solution — so I built SaveBuddy.
What is SaveBuddy?
SaveBuddy is a Chrome extension that lets you save links with a single click. No account required, no cloud sync — everything stays stored on your local machine.

How to Install
- Clone the repo or download the ZIP
- Go to
chrome://extensions/ - Enable Developer mode (top right toggle)
- Click Load unpacked and select the SaveBuddy folder
- Done! The extension icon appears in your toolbar
How It Works
Save a Link Manually
Paste a URL in the input field, optionally add a custom title, and hit SAVE LINK.
Save Current Tab
Click SAVE TAB and the active tab's URL + title gets saved instantly.
Manage Saved Links
- Click the pencil icon to edit
- Click the copy icon to copy the URL
- Click the trash icon to delete
- Use DELETE ALL to clear everything
Why Local Storage?
Most bookmark managers force you to create accounts and sync data to their servers. SaveBuddy takes a different approach:
- ✅ Your data stays on your machine
- ✅ No account needed
- ✅ No tracking
- ✅ No server calls
- ✅ Works offline

What I Learned
Building this extension taught me:

chrome.storage,chrome.tabs, and Manifest V3 - CRUD operations with localStorage
- DOM manipulation without any framework
- User experience — keeping things simple is harder than adding features
